Who has and uses a double rifle? Or who lusts after one?

Gosh, those Fausti are very nice. I immediately had to look them up. Built on a 20-gauge frame, SxS, O/U double and combination guns, in .45-70 Government, .444-Marlin, 7x65R, .30-06 Springfield, 8x57mm-JRS, 9,3x74R and .30R-Blaser, for $4,000 USD. A .444 or 9.3x74R appeals to me.

Yep spot on. The chapuis is also built on a 20g frame. That means light and great handling. Whilst some may wish for some rhino stopping calibre, they weigh a tonne, cost a fortune and are not my cup of tea for every day hunting. All the calibres you just mentioned are perfect for deer and boar.

Less than £2K now at Swillingtons in 9.3 and 8 mm. Have used mine on and off for the last 4 or 5 seasons with iron sights especially when distances are tight. It is conditioned for AOLQ back here.

I've seen the Heym o/u doubles go for not much bunce, certainly less than a plastic stocked blaser.

I have had a H&H Royal SxS in .375 ( lucky buy at auction ) that shot like that. It was light and well-balanced, so recoil was brisk.

As you said, earlier, the rhino guns are heavy and expensive to shoot ( Thomas Bland, 12 lbs, .470 NE at $120.00 USD a box ).

A SxS in a shorter, rimed cartridge, like the .444 Marlin or 8x57IRS, is quick to reload, has more power than any wild boar can stand, recoil no more than some .308 Win rifles, and you can download both to .44 Magnum or .357 Magnum power for practice and even deer hunting - cheap to feed.

Yes regulated for my handloads of 286gr Hornady Interlocks at 200m. Which is makes it a 300 yard deer rifle which is more than adequate for stalking or hound hunting. Any rifle that you can regulate with an allen key has its advantages.

Thanks my mates rifle shoots the same with the same load. They shoot well and dead easy to regulate.

I do have a soft spot for the fabarm o/u but a lot of people bag them. They are short, light and easy to mount a scope or red dot.

I was looking at the baikals too. They are rough and ready, but i wondered if they were the good basis for a project. Re-stocked with a nice piece of walnut into a good shape, the action blueprinted and everything refinished and reblued, could be nice.

Would be like putting lipstick on a pig.
