Why should I not get a 204 ruger

Thanks triggersqueezer that is interesting because one of the claims of the 20 cal is that it bucks the wind more than the 22 cal.

It does, with all things being equal. The thing that really gets my panties in a bunch is this resentment of wind drift and drop. As I said earlier, I don't take offense to gravity any more and the same goes for wind drift. Both will always plague every shot you take. It's naive to think there is a cartridge out there that "takes care of you" with regard to these two forces of nature. It doesn't exist. As suggested, you can beat them back my going to a faster, heavier bullet with a better ballistic coefficient, but that won't save you from needing to learn how to compensate for them. It never does. The 223 and 204 are small cartridges that are at the end of their usefulness at 400 yards. At that distance physical forces have their greatest effect. You can't criticize them for that. You either learn their ways or shoot something else.~Muir

Please don't get me wrong I am not one of those who want the magic rifle. To me the skill of shooting is judging wind drift and hold over and something only you can gain with practice. Going back to my original OP I still have the dilema as what to get for a daytime long range varmint. It is a short list of another .223, a .204 ruger or a 20 practical. As you say the 20 practical makes sense but the 204 will be easier to get hold of. I may yet get another .223 and a twist 1:12 and shoot light bullets.

Bin them both...and get a 6mmbr job done,

And it still will suffer from wind and drop just like we all do as we get older :scared:

You have to have an account to view that post.

Cut n paste...pics might work too:

Remy 700 stainless fluted fitted with riflebasix trigger, polished feed ramp, GRS fully adjustable stock will take mag conversion but I have fitted a removable plate to blind mag, screwcut .5" unf, third eye 0 moa rail.

Shoots sub moa with ease, has only been used on foxes so light use and in superb condition, will include sling and loads of ammo, cases, heads.

795.00 will rfd at cost.

Thank you for all the comments good and bad. The 20 practical sounds just the ticket but getting hold of one is harder than you think as it is a custom job usually. In my mind another .223 doesn't add anything to what I already have so I have just put in a variation for a 204 ruger. As Muir says when this is shot out I can rebarel to a 20 practical.
