PICTURES! .... Pictures of dead deer on Facebook and other forums. Dead deer looking like they have been run-over! Dead deer with eyes hanging out and skulls split in half! Dead deer with hats on and cigarettes sticking out of their mouths! Etc. etc.

I'm appalled at the number of photos in circulation on forums and social media showing a total disrespect for the animals. Some of these images are actually disgraceful!

If hunters/stalkers MUST pose with pictures of their deer, then its not difficult for them to achieve photography that look like they actually cared! ... In the end it will be stuff like this that will help get deerstalking taken away from non-professionals!!

Don't say we didn't warn you!

I have noticed quite a few photos of headshot deer on the facebook stalking forum. Not wanting to get into the headshooting debate really other than wanting to say I've never seen a attractive photo of a headshot deer......
 
Mike i think that the uk is losing all tradition of deerstalking and respect for the sport , i have done it for 30 years and can see the changes in the sport/hobbie it is not going in a good direction..

I've never seen an attractive photo of a headshot anything, so why no issue when its a fox splatted across a field that's shown in a photo?

I happen to agree that any photos taken should be done so tastefully, but let's not get on the holier than thou trail just because its deer.

Perhaps the discussion should be about respecting wildlife we manage in general, not just deer...
 
I like the way that the continental hunters respect their hunted animals. Very tasteful.

Your absolutely right, I do usually take a photo of what I shoot, sometimes with rifle or dog sat along side, very rare I would appear in the photo but most of all these are for my own game diary record and never posted on any social media sights. I don't even have a face book account

its a a deer stalking forum. That's why I only mentioned deer. I do also find headshot fox pictures distasteful.

Scare mongering phooey. Sorry, but that's what I honestly think of your post even though I sympathise with you in not liking tasteless, 'joke' photos either.
 
I have never done a Hero shot whether it be fur, feather or fin.... hunting is going down the Robson Green route of a competitive numbers game backed up with photographs.
 
Never really cared for photos of dead anything, I do have some with dead deer in them but they are kept for the people in them or some other feature of interest not for the dead deer.

didnt you post a video of advanced shooting ie headshots of park deer in 2011 I seem to remember that was pretty graphic .i have no wish to see eyes popping out or jaws hanging off either be it photos or videos but it is rather up to the individual and the forum to police such pictures .its human nature to have bragging rights some folk brag some don't I agree we should all be a bit more tasteful in the way we portray the beasts we've culled not slaughtered ! The Europeans are in my op far my respectful of thier quarry after the hunt .

Cant agree more RD I remember the day when all the old shooters would not go out without a tie. Tweeds on a driven day on the pheasants. You go to more shoots now with the shooters wearing cammo. The tie used to be showing the respect for the quarry. I am afraid we are going down the American route glorifying the hunt.

I totally respect your stance on this but there is a bit of a generation issue at play too. Leaving aside the clearly tasteless examples mentioned above, I think photographs are actually just a tool for expressing and remembering the thrill of the chase now that smart phones have made photos such an instant communication tool.

I have the Snapchat app on my phone and it's a constant stream of such photos from my Gamekeeping friends and peers. Even today I recieved a photo of two magpies caught in the same compartment of one friends Larsen and a mange ridden dog fox in a snare sent by another.

Its not intended as being gratuitous, it's just how the yoof is communicating bruv ya get me :D
