Wild Salmon Day - 1st June

I’m bass fishing on Friday wind permitting. If I blank, that’s my best excuse, right there…😂
Given to you to use for free 😆
Tbh we have the best bass stocks for years off Brighton / Newhaven, I’m hoping the short window we see tuna doesn’t send that the other way.

I take a similar view in bluefin tuna showing up on the coast of Cornwall. I’m very happy to fish for tuna off Africa and the US but they only just came back to UK waters and off we go, after them. I still fish so I’m not innocent but restraint means I take what I can eat only. Otherwise it’s like fox in a hen coop - killing just because I can. Talking of which, I have some foxes to after…
I thought that there was a strict quota system in place? First showed in Ireland, then Cornwall, then west coast of Scotland. I told my mate just wait till they get a whiff of the huge numbers of herring in the North Sea, it seems they have, & a bluefin washed up in Southwold!!!

Very strict rules not only on quota but on licensing for boats that can fish for them. Something like 250 licenses issued this year, to charter and private boats.

Catch and release is fairly scientific but it does go wrong sometimes, all have to be tagged.

Interesting to see a tagged tuna swimming up the M4 which I think has happened.

Seems to be more people “shark fishing” when the bluefin are about. A lot of disagreement about the boat licensing system.

I’ve seen them off Newhaven, quite a sight to behold.

Edit - 180 licenses in 2025 - note these are all catch and release
