Leupold also have this issue and I am sure others.
You are safe buying from a reputable dealer, although a friend brought a second hand Audi off the main dealer and it was stolen, he did get it replaced with apologies.
There are lots of scams out there, eBay is a marketing platform and these aren't fake, the marketing is designed to deceive.
