You Poms watching the Ashes?

Even Stokes, who has huge self belief, indicated post match his head was shedded by what Head did in response.....
There is every boundary by Head in this clip below. I didn't see it live thus only just watched it. He was in fine form.

.... Thought the Poms were always whinging....... 🙂.
Well they are still on about 'inconsistencies' and of course losing the match after having the old enemy on toast on day two.
Old Smithy keeps banking the money that those Poms in the stands are contributing to lol.

Glenn was lickin` his lips at the thought.....

So what could they do to alter the balls ballistics? Presumably there's a spec for weight/diameter/materials/construction/surface finish...

Wow that's an aggressive field. What's the game? I'm imaging last wicket with the fielding team not worried about giving away fours but desperate to win the game before time's up?

Can’t remember the situation but it was the last Ashes test at Edgbaston. The view is from the Hollies stand.

I know but none as important in the context of a series .....

He is a cracking player.....
After sitting and thinking in the cold light of day about what Travis did.......nothing has changed my view on where this stands.....

Drop Uzzie and have Travis open for the next 4? I know he's said he'd like to have a crack as a Test opener. Timing couldn't be worse from an English perspective......but may be what he and Australia need?

I'd put it top 10 definitely.......not sure where on this particular list.....but above Pietersen's......and was there for that and for Stokes' efforts at Headingley.e

In the context and circumstances, think Smith's was the best. He had a mammoth tour. Says a lot about his mental strength as well as his (quirky) ability........

The ball has a seam and two halves. When the ball is new both halves are shiny bright. If you allow one side to dull yet keep the other side shiny then the side with the less air drag or friction will cause the path of the ball to curve. Cheating involves trying to dull the side you want to have more friction or drag by rubbing it in the dirt or by scratching its surface.

Years ago, as you do, I took and old dulled cricket ball and painted one side with gloss varnish. The thing would veer a good one to two feet as it slowed down to where the drag or friction took effect. It's quite bizarre to watch. The other cheating method for a spin bowler is to pick at the stictched seam so as to make that grip the ground more when it lands and so give greater spin.

The only methods considered "fair" are those that try to maintain the shine. Methods that seek to accelerate the dullness are considered "not fair". Therefore polishing the ball on the trousers is OK as is using, as far as I think still legal, natural sweat or natural oil produced by the skin. But using hair cream in definitely cheating...so did FST get away with it with his Brylcream?

The thing with swing is you want just enough. Say five inches and happening late. So that the batsman plays at what he thinks is a straight ball but as his stroke reaches the ball the ball has swung just enough to take an outside edge and offer a slip catch or just enough to take it through the gap between the inside edge of the bat and the pads to strike his wicket or (if hitting the pads) have him LBW.

Too much outswing and the ball misses the outside edge of the bat and too much inswing and the curve the ball takes then takes it away from a path where it would have hit the wicket or allowed an LBW call. The swing happens at a particular speed (usually) so you also have to have a bowler who's speed is such that the ball slows down near enough to the batsman for the swing to be "late" and not to start swinging halfway along the delivery where it can be seen by the batsman.
