I've converted two older guns to speedload.....Ah! I had a 16, on s1 after 1988, for "flocking birds". But regrettably they never had the speedload feature that the Auto-5 acquired in the early 1950s. So I let it go.
There are various non lead options available now for most, which hopefully will allow them to hold onto their well deserved values going forward.Seeing some of the lovely old guns on this thread is making me look forward to a total ban on lead ammunition so that they come down in price sufficiently for me to own one.

Agreed, the big enemy of the older side by side gun values is that they are now very much a niche item. There are various non lead options available now for most, which hopefully will allow them to hold onto their well deserved values going forward.

I've known several to shoot clays all the time with SXS guns. Refused to use topsy turvy guns. I don't think they are niche at all. Very common indeed. Pumps are more niche I would say and the smaller gauges but not a sxs.Agreed, the big enemy of the older side by side gun values is that they are now very much a niche item.
They’re designed purely for bird shooting, the layout, double triggers light weight, short cartridges and auto safeties aren’t familiar to those shooters that just want one “ does it all” shotgun.

Then we’re not seeing the same thing, better than 80% of the guns I see on driven shoots nowadays are O/U and a bigger percentage of the guns on clay grounds are O/U too.I've known several to shoot clays all the time with SXS guns. It is all I own, so I shoot clays with them too. Never got on with other configurations of guns particularly well.I've known several to shoot clays all the time with SXS guns.
