It's cold 50% Fahrenheit windy 30mph and rainy here. It sounds like The Open:british:doesn't it? I'm inside and have wondered something about your Queen. Why doesn't she abacate and give him a chance to be king while he is relatively healthy? Heck that spry old bird no offence ment, could outlive us all. capt david

As I said; for her son. But, I am from the US and we gave up on Monarchy's a long time ago and have little knowledge of them?

BTW are you a citizen of the UK, or a subject of the Monarch?

Like stalker.308 says.

You're right though, Charles won't have a great long reign. But his son will. It's seen as a job for life. Even when monarchs in the past have become unable to carry out their duties, they have remained King/Queen and a regent does their duties. When George III became ill (mad) his son became Prince Regent and had the powers of the King. The only person to abdicate in modern times was The Duke of Windsor (as he became known), or George VI. He abdicated because he wanted to marry Wallis Simpson, an American and a divorcee. At that time, a King doing that would have been totally unthinkable. Compare that to more modern times with Prince Harry, who married Megan Markle, also an American and a divorcee. Although Harry most likely won't become King.

There is some advantage to having a long serving monarch. Elizabeth II has seen many governments come and go. Her first Prime Minister was Winston Churchill. The PM usually has an audience with the Queen on a weekly basis and although she is politically neutral and the contents of the meetings are never divulged, many PMs have commented on the usefulness of her experience and advice.

We are British citizens and the Queen's subjects. It's not one or the other.

By the way, where do you get the "capt" from? Were you a captain in the Services or of a ship or something or is it like a made-up thing, like Duke Ellington or Colonel Tom Parker?

Our Monarchy stood in the rubble of the blitz with the people.......whilst the US stood on the side lines as history recalls.

The Duke of Windsor was actually Edward VIII, who abdicated for the reason outlined. He was never crowned. George VI was his brother and the father of our Queen.
George VI served until his death.

Yes, thanks got my brothers in a twist. The perils of posting after midnight when I should be between the bed posts.

I’m sure that the families of the 416000 American soldiers who sacrificed their lives in ww2 would disagree with your foolish comment.

Not denying the sacrifice given one bit but the facts are the facts. We stood alone for 2 years with thousands killed before the US involvement or do you depute that.
