New dm80 compact mod

I also have one of the new Atec mods. Only fired about 5 shots up to now breaking in a new rifle barrel. I agree with Kevin the weight makes all the difference over anything.:)

I also have the old model and the baffles are a bit chewed, but that is used on my 30.06 as well as my previous 243.

I think at last the competition is hotting up and we have some more grown mods that have entered the market. Such as the one from SYSS, maybe will get one of thoses to try om my 223.:???:

The great thing about the site is in a few months you guys with the alloy ones will be able to put photos of your baffles after a few hundred rounds down them and everybody will be well informed as what to expect, there for make a informed choice.

How true. Plenty of potential for egg on face! Will be happy to post pix after a while so people can form a view - even it is that yours truly bought unwisely.

Hi Kevin

I don’t think it is a case of egg on face or making a wrong decision, for the minute it is you pays your money and makes your choice, moderators have come on in the last couple of years but we don’t have the perfect one yet.

For about a millisecond. Seen the prices??!!!
PMSL yes there a tad on the high side,to be fair if they worked well the price wouldnt bother me too much,I have handled the quicksilver on the end of a rifle, yes very light to the point you dont know its there, but far far too long at 8 inch
I have also handles and shot the Lawence Precission, this is probably the best made mod i have ever seen BUt comes a a high price and after shooting it I wasnt impressed, neither was the guy who paid £700 for it,he took it back and had more baffles fitted, which they charge even more for also it gets very very hot with a short string of shots.I havnt been out again since with it due to other commitments and the god damm weather, but hopefully this weekend we will give it ago
personally i cant see them selling many due to the price for starter and there not very quiet, you would have thought for the most expensive mod in the country it would be the quietest

Have you tried that sized mod on a 308? Would be useful if it performs adequately :)

Jingles,

Go with the PES T12 Scout. You will not regret it - overbarrel, stainless, not that heavy and most importantly QUIET.

Sam

you do talk some shite on this forum :cuckoo:

if you are dishing out advice make sure it is accurate and you know what you are talking about. If it is an opinion (cos you have one) then say so.

Stainless steel is exaclty that stain less, not rust proof. it has poor sound reduction properties and is difficult to engineer unless of quality, There are better materials for the job.

i have seen numerous PES moderators seperating at the threads when fired. both my mates shoot PES and both are noisier than the T8 it replaced. Physics will dictate how you control a large expansion of gas, not what kind of steel it is made from.

PES is better with recoil because the muzzle cannot flip due to its inherrent weight.

This is only my opinion based on the fact I have shot, T8,T4,PES 12,PES scout, A-Tec,SAK, ASE Ultra and northstar.

each to their own.

Not the nicest way of putting it, but true enough. ;)

I consider a moderator like an after-market trigger or stock - bought for a rifle and most likely passed on with it. The one i favour most at the moment is Jagers - cause it's light weight, balances well on the rifle and is one of the cheapest!

Can't really understand those getting hung up with stainless steel or even titanium - common materials when i worked in Rolls-Royce creating more headaches than anything else.

Besides, the best moderator is mine - if only i could get my arse in gear to complete and find someone mad enough to test it

Fair enough :D. Of course its my opinion, what else would I give?

But what I did say is true. It IS Overbarrel. It IS stainless. And Its not that heavy (In my opinion of course ;)). And it IS quiet, It might not be as quiet as some other Mods, but of the cans I have tried I though it the quietist, and therefore I have recommended it. At no point did I state it would be rustproof, I said it was stainless.

For the record, off the top of my head (allas I do not keep a record) I have used T4, T8, T8 Magnum, A-TEC (not the new one yet) Ase Ultra S5, Jet Z, Northstar, Wildcat, PES T12, PES T12 (Scout), JLS Wednesbury (I think they have gone out of business).

As for the seperating on the threads I havent come across that, so will not comment. But I have seen Wildcat and an A-TEC go pop on the range, neither filled me with confidence.

Im big enough and ugly enough to take any verbal drubbings that come my way, but being polite doesnt hurt anyone does it?

I think we have all expressed our opinion at some point, I am not a professional stalker, nor have I yonks of experiance like some of our members, but I think that I have something to offer up it is a public forum after all.

No hard feelings,

Sam

Well with regards to the A-Tec one I hope you can back that statement, who the owner was the model, time date etc as both the old importer of A-Tec moderators and the new ones are I think are members of the site.:scared:
