Packham needs sectioning ....

Sickening.
One of my best friends lost his young (and very beautiful) wife to this horrible disease, leaving him to care for 3 young children (one was just a baby) alone.
Another friend lost his wife just 2 months after their wedding - she was only poorly for a week!

My sister also suffered, but survived, thank God. It was a tough time.

I'm all in favour of supporting environmental issues, and have my own personal views about the relative importance of human life in the general scheme of things, but the attitude of this guy is a hideous offense to all families and sufferers. He should be made to apologise and shut up.

That's not going to happen unfortunately, the do-gooders keep excusing him because he "has ailments". This pc lark has gone too far now, we need to back track a way and make folk responsible for their actions.

The thing is with free speech you find out who the a##holes are, from someone who's recovered from this terrible illness, Mr Packham you are a c##t.

It seems you can get away with anything if you've got a "syndrome".
It's like parents with badly behaved uncontrollable kids - "Oh, little Tommy can't help it, he's got wheltenspluuger's syndrome" when all that was needed was a clip around the lug'ole from time to time, and some proper parenting. The thing is, these imaginary syndromes are rather fashionable amongst the yummy mummy set, along with "eating disorders".

Agree with you rodp, this PC lark has gone way too far.

Well said, I thought it was just me who thought along these lines.

Well
......
I thought the same .....I was old school brought up ....clip round lug hole ...never did me any harm.....

Rock forward & I now have two autistic boys 6yrs & 7yrs old.....who both are fussy with food ..... & other things

I tried the old school method when first diagnosed & trust me 4 yrs down the line

This isn't any " PC malarkey " & they both get proper parenting
And I'd trade it all in tomorow for them to be normal I don't consider it a fashionable thing & we aren't any yummy mummy set up either

Solid down to earth get on with it

I love my kids & it f&&cking hurts to see the development gap between them & their peers.

Those who think I'm in a "PC lark "...... You don't have a frigging clue

No offense intended, Paul, to those who live with genuine recognised conditions, as in your case.

But there does seem to be a culture of "give it a name and it's all ok" in some circles.

One of my older sisters definitely comes under the "yummy mummy" heading, and her son suffered for years with a behavior related "syndrome". The lad came to stay with us when he was in his mid teens, and I was forewarned about the behavioral issues. When my sister dropped him off she left me with a massive bag of medications that he was supposed to be taking. When she'd gone I put them all in the cupboard, (for safety - out of reach of my own kids) and told him that that's where they were to be kept, and he should just take out what he needed as required.
During the course of his stay (several weeks) his behavior steadily improved, until he was as sane and level headed and trustworthy as anyone could wish for.
It wasn't until my sister came to get him, and I got the med bag out of the cupboard, that we realised he hadn't taken a single pill in the whole time he was with us. He clean forgot, without mummy to remind him and with all the new experiences he was getting helping me on the farm.
It seems that the poor kid had been doped up for years in the name of this supposed "syndrome", to satisfy my sisters street cred with the other mothers in her social circle, when all he needed was fresh air, hard work and good food. I wouldn't mind betting that most of his previous issues were side effects of the meds!

This was some years ago, and the lad is now a paramedic.

Well that's a brief that's given hope for the future .....
I've seen the same but only with elderly , pills for this , pills for that then next thing you know picked up they would rattle......something else's happens.....new doctor .....then says what the hell you on all this for?
Removes it ...start again ....immediate improvement ...

Biggest problem we have is keeping their heads out of an iPad ......if allowed to they will disappear into a virtual world and hard to get their heads out of it ....

My wife does a great job ...trying to keep them outside etc but harder than it sounds .

Definitely environmental as far as I'm concerned with looking at giving them the best ...keep em occupied .get them outside as often as ....but hands up I'm guilty of being over protective in that area ...you just know they don't / didn't have a great sense of awareness when could be harmed ...but definitely better last couple years .

Why is there so much of this these days....? Remember when we were at school ( I'm 42) and there was always half dozen kids at the back who were in the special group ..." Just a bit thick or slow " often said.....bet if you could go back they would ether be in the autistic spectrum or they would be dyslexic .

Now I'm going to go off on the realms of fantasy here ... No science or back up or proof ......
Why is so prevelant now ?
Well we got better at diagnosing it but I believe as with cancer .....that it's all down to the amount of crap in food & the processing of it
So much processed refined chemicals & sugar in stuff now & it's in everything you can't get away from it

Just my gut feelings

Paul

Your gut feeling is probably about right.

As for the ipad issue - that's something that all parents are having to deal with at the moment, not just the parents of kids with issues. At least you are trying to do something about it. There's plenty of parents who'd be so busy fiddling with their own ipads that they wouldn't even know what their children were up to.

My very limited experience suggests that even with children who have genuine behavioral conditions if you can get them sufficiently interested in something else to make them forget their other issues, even if only briefly initially, then you're on the right road to getting over the worst of it. In kids with "mock syndromes" like my nephew then it's the key to putting it all behind them. (Remember, this lad had spent his whole life being told that he had this problem. More or less brainwashed into believing it. And it all went away!)

Sounds to me like you and your missus are doing your best for your boys, and no-one can ask for more than that.

Trying !
That's all can do I guess

But we have digressed...
I think the general sentiment was that Chris Packham and his PR crew use his supposed medical condition as an excuse for his outrageous and offensive statements, and because of this it's not "PC" to blame the man himself. (Which is nonsense - the guy knows perfectly well what he's doing, and should be held to account for it).

I would bet a lot of money that if he called a black person a N....R,he would be gone by now no matter what condition he blamed it on.....

Everyone is entitled to their opinion
but not to use their BBC position as a platform to spout their lunacy

Correct, but we as normal people will not be able to do anything about the Packham's of this world.
Actually we could do something about it, I venture that most on here do online banking, or can get into their branch easily ?
Just cancel the direct debit that pays the tv licence, it's called voting with your feet.

Neil. :)

ah but we can
He has already received a warning from the BBC over conduct

one in three people suffer some form of cancer in their life....... if I were mr packham I wouldn't be rattling my gums about something with such high odds....

petition needed for the bbc to sack him...

Those of us who took part in the (futile) exercise of complaining to the BBC after his last "toxic" outburst were not surprised at their corporate response (ie- we are not interested, you are a minority and he is a popular presenter who generates profit). There is no reason to expect anything different in their response this time,. despite the vile and reprehensible nature of his outburst. They will simply trot out their stock response of "he was not working for us at the time and he is free to voice his own opinions, the public are able to differentiate for themselves."
That statement in itself demonstrates their detachment from reality and prepares us for their inaction.

i don't like chris packham. i heard an interview where he admitted to collecting birds eggs when he was younger, so he is a bit of a do as i say not as i do person.

but if his point is what happens when the planet is full?

it is an interesting question that will need an answer someday.

As for voting with your feet ... I would quite happily stop paying tv Licence fee but wife n kids use tv.
