Better regulation of expanding ammunition?

The thing to keep in mind though is that the standard hotch potch expanding ammo condition that we all have on our certs, was cobbled together and rushed into usage because the legslators completely forgot that it wasn't just handguns that used expanding ammo in the post-Dunblaine rush to do something (anything!).

Like all other kneejerk laws it created a mishmash that doesn't really make much sense.

Seriously, though, what I don't understand is the inability of shooting men, of all people, to regulate better their lust for wanting more and more things 'regulated'.

Don't you think we are over-regulated already!
I can't believe that any shooter would want more regulation, what we want is sensible regulation. Every one who has an interest in shooting or administration of the firearms acts wants clearer simpler legislation, and many of us have suggested a review of the current legislation on numerous occasions.

njc110381 how would you propose regulating target bullets, and to what benefit? If such legislation was suggested or imposed I would go out of my way to circumvent it by casting or swaging for every calibre that I own. You cannot legislative further for people who take no notice of our existing laws so what would be the point of ****ing around those of us who try to adhere to the law regardless of whether the law is just or sensible.

I had a discussion with firearms and was told that a ballistic tip type bullets would be classed as a target round if the packaging inferred that the bullet was for target shooting like if the packaging says 'match', target' etc. BUT.... The same bullet in packaging that says 'game' or 'hunting' is then expanding..... eh?

So what the bullet does means nothing..... it's the intended use, in the same way that hollow points are not classed as expanding....... because they don't expand??? tut

What makes me laugh is the so called condition that when purchasing bullet heads they can only be sold in a face to face transaction but target bullet heads dont.
I had quite a lengthy discussion recently with my Firearms Enq Officer who said that my useage was zero as I did not have them recorded on my ticket, by the gun shop and had many hundred in stock, I explained that the onus quite rightly was on the gunshop to comply not myself, as I had authorisation to purchase expanding ammo and thats all that was required in my transaction, and he still could not understand how I was in possesion of expanding bullet heads until I showed him my transaction receipts from the importation from abroad, not really much he could do as whatever laws applies in this country dont apply with other countries and as I quite rightly pointed out to him they are only recommendations by the Home Office to be written on a certificate and not actual written into the firearms act.
As the wording on my certificate authorised me to purchase expanding ammo it did not specify from what source and I insisted it remained that way.
His argument was that they had no control of amounts with what I was doing, I explained that the onus was on myself surely to maintain my holdings as per the allowace set on my documentation with that he left and within a week my certificate came back with the wording to my needs.

Its certainly cheaper to purchase plastic tipped bullet heads marked for target use which are V Max from USA inc postage than it is from a gunshop in this country approx a third of the cost thats why I do it if its wasnt of coarse I would not go to the trouble

Further more there is no way in checking what quantities bought by anyone,
If I wanted to I could purchase 20,000 bullet heads if i wanted to obviously I maintain my requirements as placed on my certificate as I have no intention of exceeding my stated holdings of made up ammunition I believe in keeping myself within the parameters of the law

Well, and those that shot pistols will know this, the absolute nonsense was any hollow base wadcutter pistol bullet. Load it the normal way aand it's a target bullet. Load it the reverse way and it is immediately an expanding bullet!

A total nonsense of the regulations on "expanding bullets" which I'm told actually came about because someone at the Home Office didn't realise that bullets were not loaded rounds but just (that awful stupid word "heads").

The Webley MkIV "Manstopper" was actually designed as a manstopping bullet. Yet in fact was also a superb target bullet being in fact no more that a hollow base wadcutter bullet loaded the normal way.

And, dear friends, how do we distinguish if we regulated ALL bullet between round lead balls for catapults - or undrilled "bullets" for salmon worming - and actual bullets?

Regulation Regulation.
If you have ever lived for a period in a society that has a lot less of it i.e austria or switzerland you would know that they get along there fine without having over onerous regulation as they appear to have less of the jobsworths getting onto the "legislate it out of existence because I don"t want it to be allowed" brigade.
We seem to have accepted in the UK that a little more restrictive law each few years is an acceptable way of social engineering plus it justifies the jobs of the Whitehall wallas.
Your grandchildren will be hunting deer with sticks and stones at this rate.

We really must not forget that expanding bullets are very very dangerous and non expanding bullets are obviously very very safe.... The government says so........ so it must be true
