Actually, I did. I keep a cloth lying around for the occasional person with what we used to call "bad hands" -the guys who could leave a rusty finger print on a vintage S&W by simply touching it. Got you covered, Amigo. ~Muir
 
The dreaded poison hands . An old friend of mine , we'll call him the Leper , can scab up anything he touches . I'm sure there's a biological reason for it , at least he's careful about it .

Thanks mate, it's a rifle to do me for hunting wherever I may go so I red a lot about your fellow Scandinavians using it!
I thought the same when I read the pressure specs, they're very low@ about 13000 psi (900 bar) under modern 8x57. I'll likely stick to standard pressure but i can't find any problems from people using modern full pressure 8x57 in the m46 so it's an option maybe.
 
If I remember correctly that was what the article surmised. Usual caveats, start low and work up carefully, pretty sure that it was the 8x57JS pressure levels used in the article.

Then I saw this at Holts but didn't bid, it didn't sell, was in the unsold lots section at a great price and couldn't resist.

Its a Husqvarna Model 46 (I'm 99% on that), 9.3x57, weaver k4-f mounted on top. I'll have to get it threaded unfortunately but I'll get the front sight reinstalled and an invisible protector added to minimise the ugly.

I know I know. I don't mind the noise, I would happily wear duffs, but down here there is so many little pockets of land with houses on that shooting without a moderator can help you fall out of favour with the locals. I know, my current stalking rifle is unmoderated!
If I want to expand my small stalking permissions I unfortunately need to do so with a rifle that I can moderate, otherwise I'll just lose the land to someone who shoots moderated and doesn't upset the neighbours practising/zeroing!

Fortunately I am OK with my current land owners.
 
I wouldn't cut my M146 9.3 for love or money. It's too fine of a classic shooter to mess with which is why I have left my rifle un drilled and tapped for a scope mount. It is as it came and shall remain that way. BEsides, I have this 'thing' about working up loads that will shoot to the fixed elevation setting of these rifles. It didn't take me long to come up with a load that hits 2" high at 100 and 2" low at 150 using the PPU 286 grain.

Load data is sparce and on various forums you get wildly varying data from shooters. I settled in the mid forty grain region for IMR 4895. It shoots very, very well and matches my sight settings. Common advice here is to start with 358 Winchester data and work up. That didn't help me too much as the 358 Win usually tops out at 250-ish grain bullets and I am 'stuck' with 286 grain to match the original loadings. I dove in at 40 grains of IMR 4895 and worked up.

Mine is already drilled for a scope, as you can see from the pictures. My plan is to work up a load and zero with the scope and moddy in place but also work up a load that shoots to the sights without the moderator so I can use it as intended where I can.
I know it's controversial to thread it but for me it just cements its life with me as a keeper. The intention was always for a rifle to hunt the world, a life long friend with which I've shared many a trip, and in this part of the world a moderator is very much desirable.

I have a small volume downloaded off of a surplus arms forum in their swedish arms section. Let me see if I can find the link to that site. As I said though, a lot of widely varying load data.~Muir.

I share that misery. I read it all and took notes. I'd like to load IMR 4350 in this one sometime but the Norma data looks really promising. Your post prompted me to take my 9.3 out and fondle it. I have 30 or 40 rounds left loaded from the last outing but it's -10F out side.:???:~Muir

BTW: I've always felt that 9x57 data would be a better starting point for developing my own data. I just hit the IMR 4895 load too fast and got settled in on it.
 
An aside again. Lee will make you a Factory Crimp Die. I don't even think you need to send them dummy rounds because they have made a special run in the past for guys on that forum.~Muir
