9.3x57

Really nice!!! Are you going to leave it at 57mm or recut to 62mm? A great calibre and perfect for the woods. Holts can cause severe problems to my mind at times and I imagine is how Alice felt going down the rabbit hole!
Well done! Karamoja

Cheers mate. I'm keeping it 57mm. Holts always tempts me but this was just too good to pass. Should serve me well I hope.

9.3x57 was in the top 3 from the start but I figured if I was getting a custom build from the start I may as well go for the most powerful!
Then I saw this at Holts but didn't bid, it didn't sell, was in the unsold lots section at a great price and couldn't resist.

Its a Husqvarna Model 46 (I'm 99% on that), 9.3x57, weaver k4-f mounted on top. I'll have to get it threaded unfortunately but I'll get the front sight reinstalled and an invisible protector added to minimise the ugly.

It was a very tempting rifle interesting calibre as well I believe that short shoulder can cause head spacing issues, but never played with one

I've heard similar about the shoulder. The Swedes have used it for years so there must be a knack to loading for it or it's not the issue we have heard it is.

The 9.3x57 is a good candidate for cast bullets you can shoot the 286 grain at the same velocity as the factory jacketed 286 grain, so you can practise on the cheap or hunt with them,
I have the 9.3x62 it's hardly seen a copper bullet my plinking load is in the same power range as the 38/55 or .360 2 1/4"
Lovely rifle by the way,
Cheers
Robert.

I've got a Husky M146 in 9.3x57. Superb shooter despite me leaving the iron sights in place. I regulated the load to match the sights with 289 gr PPU SPRN bullets. It spits them into a ragged hole at 25M and about 1.5" at 100 when my eyes work. Nice rifle. I also have two Model 648 in 8x57. All nicely made.~Muir

Congratulations on a nice rifle in a classic chambering. The 9.3x57 and 8x57 are again popular in Scandinavia, mainly due to the increasing populations of wild boar and brown bear. The 9.3x57 is nicknamed the potato thrower here due to it's rainbow trajectory. Within typical forest hunting ranges, no problem. I did read an article in a gun mag that the 9.3x57 is typically loaded to lower pressures due to the age/condition of rifles normally used. In a modern action the cartridge can be loaded warmer.

Welcome to the potato chucker club . I've got a husky 46 in 9.3X57 as well , my third . The other two went to friends that I converted to the big and slow school of thought . I've hunted with 9.3X57's for about 20 years now , it's one of my favorite Moose rigs . I've got an old , but reliable , Leopold M8 4X on it . It's a great scope , but I'll probably end up putting a 1.5 to 4 or 5 X variable on it . I carry it , or my 45/70 , when calling Moose during the rut . They tend to pop out of the bush very close at times , I took one bull at about 20 feet , so the lower power setting is really handy . There's nothing wrong with the 4X , the weaver on yours will work perfectly , but I do like a low power scope for hunting in heavy bush .
I have a fair amount of loading data , if you're interested I'll PM it to you . Muir has a fair amount of data too , understatement , which reminds me , I've got one hundred Privi 286 gr bullets that I have to send him , oops . The good thing about the 57 is you don't need premium bullets for it , it performs best with standard cup and core bullets like the Privi's . I got a screaming hot deal on 300 Speer 270 gr hot cores about 4 years ago and have used them ever since . They really do hammer big animals without excessive meat damage . A very cool old pipe my friend , well done . PM me the serial number and I'll find out what year it was made .

Ok. Was it bullets or brass?? No matter. Still haven't caught the trading post manager in his office to get that paperwork. Weather sucks anyhow. Showed your (.58) rifle to a friend last night. He pined over it for a while before I plucked it from his grasp and pushed him out the door. :-D ~Muir

Actually , it's both . Privi bullets and brass . Your right about the weather , it's supposed to drop to -30 C this weekend , -40C with the wind-chill , perfect .
I hope your friend didn't have sweaty hands , maybe give it a wipe down just to be safe lol .

Later brother , AB
