The relevant legislation is the Deer (Firearmsetc.) (Scotland) Order 1985 Google

For roe deer, there is no specified minimum calibre, only minimum bullet weight, muzzle velocity and muzzle energy.
Therefore any bullet (irrespective of the rifle it comes out of) that meets the requirements of the legislation is legal.
Whether or not it's sensible or ethical is a different question.

Cheers

Bruce

that does not say .20 cal is legal.

I will look for and contact some custom bullet manufacturers, I have e-mailed some of the larger companies asking if they have anything in the pipeline, explaining that some pelt hunters, and the fact that the calibre is deer legal in the UK (well the best part it is), are looking for a 50gr soft point option, asked hornady for a SST type....

If it doesn't say it's illegal, then what offence can you be charged with if you shoot a roe in Scotland with a 204 using a 50gn bullet that has a muzzle velocity that is 2450 ft/sec or greater and a muzzle energy of 1000ftlbs or greater.

Cheers

Bruce

Cruelty. Home office have determined minimum calibre as .222, the op said it is confirmed as legal. Show us please.

It is legal.......

If you could get a 50gr in .17 (depleted uranium) then some of the 17's could be legal...no minimum calibre means no minimum calibre

Just to play devils advocate here but didnt richard prior( might have wrong name but the guy that was a roe deer expert) favour a 22 hornet for roe deer before the codes were written. If a hornet could kill deer in the past shouldnt a 204 be able to now?

HO guidelines also say recommended calibre for fox is minimum of .17 hornet...so all you with 17hmr tough luck lol....they are guidelines not LAW

I think that a 50gr Brass/Copper bullet with a high BC would be too long to stabilise even in a fast twist barrel.

I've just had a look at GS website and they do a 34gr HV bullet - you'd need to add about 6mm of cylindrical section to the bullet to make it 50gr which would be a 23mm long bullet - not sure how that compares with the LR Berger bullet lengths.

GS CUSTOM USA - Bullet Technical Profile

GS Custom or another manufacturer would possibly make them for you.

yep that's quite long, may pose a problem right enough

I'm phoning your firearms office tomorrow.
