Lanolin for case lube

What is the best type of lanolin to mix with IPA for case lube. Think I've ordered the wrong type.
I ordered the waxy substance, should I have got liquid lanolin,or will either do? Thanks

Hi Paul
I use liquid lanolin bought from Amazon & it works perfectly.
Don't know if you will get the solid stuff to stay in solution. If it does it may be ok. If not use it as a hand cream.
See you soon.

Really easy. Liquid lanolin from ebay or Amazon but cheaper if you know someone visiting Walmart. Ratio I started with was 10 to 1 but have thinned down to 12 to 1. Works very well if you are resizing large quantities.

Problem is that not everything labelled "lanolin" or "pure lanolin" is 100% lanolin. It's other name is wool fat and that tells you what it actually is and gives an idea of what it will be like. Bown. Waxy. Not white like driven snow!

I used to make my own lubricant for bullet swaging and used a 50/50 mix of lanolin and castor oil. The lanolin you want, therefore, is anhydrous lanolin. It will be brown like a coffee with just a little too much milk. So lighter than a Galaxy chocolate bar but darker than a Caramac chocolate bar. nd waxy.

Personally I'd not bother and just buy Imperial Sizing Lube and spend the time you've saved doing something else. But if the stuff you've got is the brown waxy stuff that's the right stuff. Now get some castor oil and mix together over a low heat. Just don't lick your fingers when using it!

Tip, stand both bottles in warm to hot water for 10 mins before mixing, works much better :)

After making this myself and using it I'd never go back to buying commercial stuff. Cheaper and makes so much you'll probably never need to buy more and so quick to apply, literally second's to lube 100 cases.

Why would t you bother when you can make it for way cheaper than bought ?
Also the time saved? Hardly takes any time to measure out and mix ....the one time and you’ll have enough for life!
I did the warm water trick too ....

I do a lot of full length resizing of both our own and my clubs used cases, 100's at a time. I have to admit I went back to my favourite lube, RCBS case slick spray which you can't get over here. It's expensive in comparison (about $9 for 4oz) but it's the most slippy thing I've found, certainly a lot better than the DIY mix. I'll be picking up a few more bottles next trip :)

The Frankford Arsenal 8oz pump spray is also pretty decent for those not wanting to DIY their own.

Thanks for all the replies. I've changed my order to liquid lanolin to mix with the IPA,after fl resizing 150 cases today with the Lee gunk, can't wait to simply spray it on.
