Hear hear!

Im surprised people are that negative-we are lucky Britain didn’t have that mentality in World War 2 when Hitler was taking over Europe!

In case you missed it, we were actually losing the war. It wasn’t until the Americans stepped in that the tide finally turned.
We then went on to build up German industry so we’ll that we totally fk’d ours in the process.
Come on NRA we need you now!!

I didn’t miss it- that was exactly my point when it looked like we was doomed we still had the courage to stand up! Germany do make good guns though Weihrauch being one of my favourites!

The best ever made, sadly mostly butchered, was the pre war oberndorf sporter mausers in intermediate length, chambered in 7x57 (of course), before the chambering designation was stolen by the copycats called Rigby, who claim to make all this and then, but really just are finishers, and these days,,re-branders.

What’s with the negativity and pessimism?
you know what? A man’s character cements his fate, good or bad

All I can say is well done buckaroo8, for at least having the discussion and thinking of how we may try to stop the march towards eventual strangulation of common folk owning and using guns in this country. All I see is the gradual slide towards more regulation and bureaucracy, which will eventually make it almost impossible for us to continue with our way of life.
The organisations which apparently speak on our behalf seem powerless or unwilling to use any remaining power to fight for what is still currently our right. Why these rights are continually allowed to be tampered with is beyond me.
I feel it's time for these organisations to really defend us by any means legally possible as although they might annoy a few MP's and get knocked off a few dinner invites, so what.In only a couple more decades they will be of absolutely no relevance and have no one to represent.

Like many I fell almost powerless to make any difference. What I do on a regular occasion is proudly talk to people I meet perhaps while out stalking or in other situations where my activities are raised.
For instance I took some venison burgers to a family BBq the other day. I was asked about them, their ingredients, if I had killed the animals which provided the meat etc. I answered these questions openly and proudly. I relayed that I knew exactly where that meat had come from to within a yard or two. Why I had shot that particular animal, and why I prefer to eat meat from animals I have either hunted or reared myself. I consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to do so and appreciate not all of those I was talking with could or would want to source their own meat, but they all could see that my reasoning was sound, humane and sustainable and by the end of the discussion my actions were seen to be quite acceptable. No longer was I a blood thirsty deer killer, but a passionate country man with principals and a desire to provide for myself while enjoying the countryside around me. In fact while at this BBq I saw 2 roe across a field, which others were amazed at when I went to the truck and fetched my bins so they could view them.
This is how we as individuals can begin to make a difference. Education. Don't be ashamed of your job/sport/passtime if you act with integrity, skill and animal welfare in mind you should be proud.

I’ve seen a few deactivated gewehr98s and would love to have a go of a live one if I ever had the chance.I’ve been tempted to get a lee Enfield smle bored for .410 on a few occasions to! (I appreciate this isn’t German though!)

Well said!

Ok .....
Christ we make it difficult for ourselves ! [emoji33]

For the last two to three years the Pace brothers via into the wilderness podcast and their videos from themselves and on behalf of various moorland groups, have done more for hunting in two years than the industry itself has for itself in last thirty years!
Landowners / & estate mangers etc have ignored the threat and now it’s in our faces!

also look up “ Blood Origins” on you tube.
Another cracking guy trying to educate the general public into Why we hunt and it’s benefits...
Forget the true anti ! You have no chance of converting them , but we stand a chance to get the majority of the general uneducated onboard or at least educate them!

If you don’t “ like” what Byron & Darryl pace are doing along with others then tough!
In the words of the great Shane Mahoney ....
You don’t have to like something if it’s good for conservation & biodiversity ... you just have to agree it’s working!

Give their podcast a listen , watch the videos ... show them to a colleague .... dish out bit of venison or game ... burgers etc....
Take someone out let them see what we do ... what sights we see... the animals the birds the sunrise ... the views !
But above all .... for fu5k sake fight these bar stewards !!!
😡

This defeated **** !!!!
Just hand In your guns now why don’t you ?!

Denmark managed to turn round national legislation on certain bow hunting law with regard to hunting red deer with a bow ...they stood together! The point isn’t bow hunting should be banned or whatever your thoughts.... the point is the Danes stood as one and made sure they were heard ! And provided evidence and fought their corner !

It CAN be done!

No wonder we have our backs against the wall with all the defeatists here.
I mean; 90% of shooters do bugger-all to protect their sport, yet come to sites like this & bleat about how we're doomed.
Well how about instead of posting your whines on here, you get in touch with your MP, write to the Home office & if you don't like BASC, join one of the other organisations & bloody well write to THEM if you don't think they're doing enough?
I'm a member of three shooting organisations & am becoming ever more involved in local issues, plus I badger my MP incessantly & all it takes is a couple of hours a week.

Get your arses in gear, stop whining pointlessly & bloody well DO something.

Excellent post matey

It is indeed up to US to educate & counter the incessant propaganda of those who know little & care less about the facts behind the need to control deer numbers, keep down vermin & manage the countryside in a manner that is both environmentally sound & economically productive.

Been there, seen it, done that continuously since the first "Countryside March". It maketh not the slightest difference, in fact I may as well P... up the wall and play with the steam. Unless all our organisations come together and go for the throat we are shafted, and even if they do get together and do something I feel the result will eventually be the same, but at least they will have tried. I am not a defeatist by any means having been in some hopeless situations in my time (and fought my way out of them) but the situation is plain with all political parties and the Police. "Get guns out of Public hands".

I too am not a defeatist. I am however a realist.
I have spent 25 years stalking deer and most of those years speaking to people (who will listen) about what I do and why I do it.
Most get bored but due to my slight Aspergers I have no ability to read body language and generally don’t care if I am boring someone either.
I care about conservation.
However the reality of the situation is that the shooting organisations are divided. Shooters suspicious of other shooters and the end result is disarray.
I fear that until we reach the precipice the status quo will remain and once at it, it will be too late.

Couldn't agree more. People are starting to have a much better awareness of where their meat is coming from. The tide is turning against mass meat production. If stalking is framed in the right context (management of deer which have no natural predators) and harvesting wild meat (which is traceable, ethical, high in protein and low in fat) I think it is possible to present an argument which is accepted my most logical people.

All I can say is well done buckaroo8, for at least having the discussion and thinking of how we may try to stop the march towards eventual strangulation of common folk owning and using guns in this country. My mother used to be a vegetarian. She now eats a small amount of meat. We have progressed from her being absolutely disgusted at the thought of me going out and shooting bambi to her wishing me good luck when I go out stalking that I get something. She even phoned me up the other night after watching Kate Humble Back to the Land which had a feature on a guy in Yorkshire who had setup a butchers shop and was selling the venison he shot on his family farm to tell me all about it.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, you will never change the hard line anti, but I like to think most people are pretty reasonable.

My partner is an animal fanatic (dogs, snakes, ferrets, lizards, rabbits and that's just what I can think of off the top of my head that she has had as pets). Now she looks forward to skinning and butchering the deer I shoot and she has become very good at it. Opinions can be changed.

Yes !
Opinions can change!

Denmark managed to not just change opinion but legislation !

And yet folk here are “ it’s not worth hassle it’s too late” 😡

It’s never too late

We just need to stand together !
