This made me feel sick

When something like this happens, the entire field sports community needs to come out and condemn it immediately. BASC, CA everyone. Otherwise we are all tarred with the same brush, classed alongside these morons. The investigation team are calling them hunters, that is me and you and everyone that stalks, shoots or fishes.

+1
I totally agree, I certainly don't want anyone thinking I have any interest in this behaviour or that my stalking is even remotely linked to this kind of "sport" (which it isn't)!

Distance is a great healer. We abhor this disgusting pastime but hardly make a fuss at all about the many thousands of dogs being tortured and skinned and/or boiled alive because the people doing it think it makes the meat taste better.

These people are f*ck all to do do with any form of field sports, vermin control, or any other legal pursuit. they're just bottom feeding creatures that need eliminating from the gene pool. nothing but ballistic jelly substitutes. Way back in my youth I was approached by one these lowlife excuses for a human because I had at the time a bull breed, [anyone who knows me will testify to my love of my dogs] offering me to fight his dog, [this by the way was at a well known game fair] I said I wasn't interested and indicated he should vacate the area, well it was actually only two words but meant the same thing;) he came back to the trade stall later in the day full of bravado and probably a few cans of stella and wanted to fight me, lasted all of 3 seconds. moral of the story,,, when I say leave ,,It's best to do exactly that.

Beware, those that ride high horses have further to fall.
i don’t agree at all with these badger baiting people but it seems to me that some of these self righteous hunters on here are making a rod with which to beat us all ?

If we the "self righteous hunters" do not say anything about these people the media will do it and include all of us along with them. The BBC called these people hunters (albeit illegal hunters) that is me you and everyone else on here classed alongside these morons. Or should we just keep our heads down and hope it blows over?

I don't think I quite understand your point?

I am aware of this and I find cruelty to any animals absolutely abhorrent

Totally agree, we hunt and we have a code of practise we follow, seasons, licenses, training, safety to others, and above all the need to ensure a quick accurate and humane shot.

these scum have no respect for themselves let alone any living creature, and yet we will be judged as they are by the anti shooting, hunting, fishing, and misguided "eco warrior/animal rights activist types" and every other media hungry nutjob, we have to be seen to condemn these idiots, or be seen as they are seen.

Has anyone noticed that the likes of the LACS and hunt sabs do not confront the badger diggers or the pikeys because they know they will get battered by them, so just attack the hunters and shooters who are a soft target and will not retaliate. So much for their concerns about animal welfare. Sab the humane badger cull but don't say a word about the Badgers ripped to bits by badger baiters.

Isn't that always the way? It is much easier for the politicians, hunt sabs, activists to target the law abiding hunter etc. than to do anything about the illegal guns, badger baiting etc.

My point is by ranting like a demented tree hugger it opens us up
to being labled hypocrites or am I missing something here?

I think what your missing is the "humane" part that we all Try to follow as best we can.
No matter how you dress up what we do, vermin control or stalking I'm sure that we all try to do it as humanely as possible.
These scum bags have no care for animal welfare and that's where I like to think most of us differ from them.

Killing a dog for food is no different from killing any other animal for food - provided that it is done humanely (which it probably isn't, in many situations). Different cultures, different diets. On the other hand, killing an animal purely for sport is mindless.
What's worse? Killing a dog and eating it, or paying big bucks to shoot driven pheasants and not even taking a brace home at the end of the day?

(Sorry we're going off topic here. I was responding to the posts about China. Agreed, badger baiting is sickening.)

Completely agree. Some people eat venison, some people eat horse and some people eat dog. I don't have a problem with eating animals. If all the pheasants from the shoot are taken home by the guns and the rest go the game dealer, no problem with that.

I think it is very sad that some people treat animals so terribly. My girlfriends mother rescues podencos (Spanish hunting dogs) and they are often treated very badly. They are wonderful dogs and I just cant understand how anyone could mistreat then.

Because it isn't really about the animal's welfare for them it is about class and having a pop at "toffs in red coats" and rich landowning farmers not "working class folk" who are poaching one for the pot (not an excuse) plus I'm sure you're right and they know they'll get a kicking from these sorts.
