You lot who have Netflix...

I read the book. Very good. He makes a good argument for hunting.

I didn’t know there was a book other than recipe books they were launching.

I’m still on series 1, but they really are lucky to hunt in some stunning countryside!

Yes very good couple of series. Also “the hunt” is on there but my god the guy never shuts up

Bugger - another distraction. The disadvantages of working from home and having a large report to write. Just one more episode.....

What always strikes me about American hunting is how much of an adventure it is to get just one animal. A little big travel in, big walk, many days then trying to find an animal - not the animal - just one. And then if you do get a shot getting all the meat out.

Compare that to most British stalking. Potter about the woods for a couple of hours in morning or evening and get irritated if you don’t shoot something. And when you do, you bring a vehicle in to take it out.

Very true. Not sure what I'd prefer, spend a week once a year hunting a shoot a moose and have meat all year or do what I do now which is pretty much exactly as you described! I do like the convenience of UK hunting but it isn't really adventurous, at least not for me in the crowded South East maybe it's different in Scotland.

Steve rinella meateater podcast also on iTunes ..

Big difference is they often not just pottering about local farm but going waaay out into wilds or back country .... often not allowed motorized vehicles & have a tag for a beast that’s it ... as said already often beast is big ... moose / elk ... so on top of your kit ... sleeping kit etc you need to get that animal out ...... Donnie Vincent I love to watch ... they often take four runs in & out to get the meat and head out .... that’s dedication...

I guess closest you get here is if you hike from the lode out to the grounds shoot your stag / hind .... gralloch ..... camp out .... then pack animal out on foot all back to lodge .....

A lot of folks would say that’s a lot of work ....
that’s what these guys do all the time ...

Fit ! .... they certainly are fit

Paul

I watched the MeatEater series and really enjoyed it, BIG country and a real adventure. You can tell Steve Rinella has a real passion for what he does and the cooking side was really interesting as well.

Had a go at watching "The Hunt" but gave up after the first episode as it just seemed to be a "Look at me I'm trophy hunting" program.
