“Friend” permission stealing

If you know his permissions pop over with your cert/insurance & gain access ( obviously your not planning on using them) Then follow it up with a nice sarky comment like *fancy looking over another couple of my permissions”.......love to see the expression on his face!!!

I've had this happen to myself, when you've given a friend a helping hand when their permission has not been forthcoming. They then go behind your back and don't have the decency to tell you.

Telling you does not make it decent.....they still made you aware last!!!

Yep happened to me, best mates for years would trust him with my life. Introduced him to driven pheasant shooting then he thought he could make money out of it. Tried to gain one of my perms farmer phoned me. Unfortunately he succeeded a few times from other mates perms. Everyone I introduced him to he has tried to shaft. Now makes a lot of money out of it, woodcock over pointers, pheasant shooting, stalking. Mostly with foreign clients. Worst of all he was my cousin and caused my wife and kids to loss contact with his family. Now I don't trust anyone with my perms.

It even happens to employed Stalkers. We used to have quite a laugh in the Estate Office reading the letters from guests and acquaintances telling how they could do a better job of the deer management than I could! Some were priceless, complete amateurs giving detailed management plans for a 27,000 acre estate based on a three or four hour paid stalk! One even got the species of deer in the park wrong!

It happens in all walks of life, it’s a shame but as long as your doing a good job then you will very rarely get over turned unless money is involved.....

I would certainly pull him up on it and say it’s not sitting right with you save damaging your friendship.

Life’s to short!

I suppose the outcome depends if the son wants to keep his job? Farmer should simply say no thanks, make sure you keep your permission, continue to employ the son and just drop the snake!

I can understand it being a mate and its not nice at all but how many of you have permission somewhere knowing full well there is someone on it as well as you .Permission is at a premium in some areas and some landowners think the more the merrier ,especially fox control .There is a market garden near me where the high seat barely has chance to get cold but the deer keep coming .We all like the thought we are the only ones on a patch but reality tends to kick us in the teeth on this as I’ve found many times .
My advice to op would be to speak to the landowner as to why there needs to be anyone else and about the safety aspect of two people ,not speaking ,who may be on the ground at same time .
Hope it resolves mate .

Just had this happen to a good friend of mine, I stalk with a good friend in my area and he has a lovely permission and I go up as his guest, to put something back he beats on the large farm and he asked me if I would go up and help, not my thing but I did because it's putting something back, anyway a chap started coming and working his dogs and telling us he has 1000's of acres in Wales which he shoots with his mates in a hide dialling in on this and that. Anyway my friend has gone away for a few weeks on holiday abroad and I carried on with the beating and this lad has approached the owner because he saw the deer whilst beating and has asked to shoot there (he kept asking me about the deer and numbers) because the owner is such a nice guy he has said yes, I feel that this lad has no integrity and is a snake. He told me he was only interested in shooting squirrels, blimey so you are going to drive 2hrs 40 mins from Wales to shoot squirrels!!! Although not my permission I feel that is bad behaviour and spoils the sport, I feel there is a hidden agenda with some people.

Trust and integrity it seems are qualities that some people struggle with. I was told by a mate years ago that deerstalking brings out the worst in people and certainly, nearly everyone has a horror story of an ex mate that tried/ tries to steal permissions. However, as someone that mainly shoots as a guest I would say that there are some amazingly kind and generous Stalkers out there. You only need to look at the free stalk/ weapons for beginners that are regularly posted on this site. And added to this what admin do with the bursary fund. I personally think it's awesome:tiphat:. I have made some great friends on this web site.
Back to permission stealing. I always make them ex mates. I think that one of the issues nowadays is that people have a larger disposable income and can flash the cash. There are probably also fewer coming into the sport with a knowledge of country etiquet /ethics?

It Happened to me it won't end nice ? and I was the one that got helped him get his cert ??? them £50 notes sure are devils in the wrong hands , its greed from both parties ? I'd pull him up on it and sack the bugger for gross misconduct :-| its a case of trust after all ! the fact that the taste of him doing it is it will never go away and your never get over passed it if you don't say something :banghead: the sack of S__t

Better in future to let any farmers/ owners you have permission on
know, you’ll never send any so called friends / name droppers to them.
Deal directly with yourself.

PS. safeguards you against an mishaps through no fault of your own.

Many years ago,20 plus years I had invited a fella from Canberra to come and hunt with us for a week. I said there is only one rule..NO GPS as I didnt want him marking the place for a revisit.

His name was John also and we set off one morning where I led the way above and all he had to do was stalk along below me 100 yards or so and every gully we came to I would stop and wait to see where he was so as to establish my own pace.
I got to a dividing spur and waited a while then walked back a little and looked down and there he was playing with his GPS.

I gave him a good rev up at the camp and he muttered something about more BS.

He will always have the coordinates wont he!

Even had it happen with s mate and the Mrs after 17 years. Still he did me a big favour in the end. Some barstewards would steal the eyes out of your head.Always remember "No good turn goes unpunished".
I just hope nobody ever tries to grab my perms, could prove very bad for their health.
