Terrano trouble

Hi,

Wondering if any mechanically minded folk can help...

My terrano 2.7 tdi is sometimes having trouble starting but usually ok if ran for a while and left for a while (at work for example).

Trouble starts after a short journey with both cold and warm engine. The engine turns over fine but is not trying to start at all as if no fuel gets to the injectors but a squirt of easy start gets her going.

Help would be appreciated.

Check the fuel filter is tight, and that it's been primed correctly? As mentioned, I'd also have a look at the injectors too? But take a look for the glow plug relay and check that first? I'm not sure where it is on the 2.7 as mine was a 3.0. It's also worth having the fuel system pressure checked as the pipes are known to have a corrosion issue on some trucks. And if you've not already, I really recommend joining these guys:

Take out the club membership (it's a tenner I think?) The place is a hotbed of serious Terrano experts, and there's a host of technical articles and threads that cover a host of subjects. I can't recommend it enough. I absolutely loved my Terrano, and wish I could find another as good. Seriously underrated trucks, in my view. Best of luck, and I'm sure you'll soon have it fixed

If filters are all good and tight

Check if the fuel lines are corroded / perished coming from fuel tank .... then drawing air or not holding vacuum and fuel draining back to tank ...

Happened to me on a Mitsubishi sport ... common on them

Sorry all, just realised I should've been a bit more informative in the original post but had just come in at my wits end from tinkering with the thing.

Issues starting existed before the fuel filter and plugs were changed.

Fuel lines have already been replaced. No other recent works carried out.

Thanks for the advice. As much as I love it, it does enjoy throwing up an issue or two so I'll definitely give that forum a look. Mines the 2.7 tdi.

When it's right I find it hard to fault. I like them that much I'd pick up a second if priced correctly (if I could actually afford it).

Got this for £1600 with 50,000 on the clock. A bit of work done to this point, mainly welding but nothing crazy. Up to 90,000 now and intending to keep it going as I can.

I got my 2.7 tdi to nearly 200k before it sustained some front end, mainly cosmetic damage which has rendered it redundant.
A shame because it ran like a dream

I bought mine for £3500 with 38k on it. It was seriously like new. I finally traded it in at 94k after some seriously tough miles. I really wish I'd kept it as we need a real workhorse to tow our two horses. That forum is really worth being a part of. The guys are really helpful, and there's a serious amount of technical knowledge there that they're only too happy to share. I was Quixote. I've put a couple of posts up that might be of interest to you, including a pretty useful reverse light mod' (you know the standard one's utterly crap, lol) I still miss that truck

I had my Zaffy serviced on Jan 12 been running like a dream all year 30k miles they changed the fuel filter. Since then has failed 3 times, each time starts and runs for 10 secs and cuts out. Fuel filter empty. As final resort garage replaced filter housing cap and put a one way valve in fuel feed line. Seems to have cured issue. Other potential cause could be a leak in the injector bleed off lines. If they have deteriorated and could let air into the system which will give v similar symptoms to yours.

Could be your mas air flow sensor get it plugged into a tester . PS if it is only buy the new and there around £40

Mine had that on the ford maverick .... didn’t make any difference to starting the vehicle but when running it lost lot of its grunt or speed
