30-06

Throw that powder away, get, some 4350, I prefer Hogdon, experiment near max and worry about May and Corbin! capt david

i apologize for my ignorance, are no 4350s available? Also ADI from Australia makes AR2209 which is sold as H4350 can't you get it?

Just starting to reload for this, have 180gr Nosler Hunting load sorted (Roughly) and have 165gr Nosler Partition ready to develop, both using RS60, not looked at RS62 yet anyone else done this?

I am about 3/4 through development of a load for the RS62 and the 165 gr accubonds. In my 30.06 it has recently shot 1/2 moa 4 shot groups with Quickload showing a 101% compressed load with a 40 thou jump to the lands. I tried various jump distances and the groups tightened 40 thou off, with very wide scatter in between. Of course as I have reduced COAL with the same powder weight it could also be the increased pressure from the reduced COAL that has produced the accuracy node, so I still need to further experiment a little with charge weight vs COAL. According to Quick load the present configuration/load should give a velocity of around 2831 fps and just on 50,000 psi chamber pressure. Once the weather improves through the weekend I will fire some test groups through the Chronograph and compare theoretical with the actual velocity.

Hi let us know how you get on I am about to try rs62 in my 3006 with 165 grain sst

Will do, hopefully Sundays weather will be good enough to place some shots with the chronograph and I will let you know.
What I have found so far is that results with RS62 for group size were nothing to rave about while working up to 100% case full and then bingo found a very tight accuracy load. If I can keep repeating it using a 40 thou jump of the accubonds I will be happy. If the velocity is broadly in line with quick loads theoretical then I will be smiling.
When comparing RS62 with 4350 powders in quick load, the 4350 are making higher pressure with lower case filling %. So maybe the RS62 does not work until it's at or over 100% case fill and pushing the pressure to the areas where 4350 is also reported to start working in the 30.06.. Just theory at the moment.

OK, Chrono tested the RS62 load this morning with the 165 Gr accubonds in a 24" barrel. 10 round string in fair weather conditions, temp 7 deg C, pressure 1009 mb. Load is 101% compressed according to Quickload. Theoretical muzzle velocity in Quickload shows as 863 m/s ( 2831 fps). Tested average velocity was taken 3 metres in front of muzzle = 876 m/s ( 2874 fps) with a SD of 14 across the test string. So happy with the velocity.. Going back to the range on Wednesday to reconfirm grouping at 1/2 moa. If the groups are confirmed that's the development finished for a hunting load.
