I could never be a proud member of BASC Charlie and up to this point I rather liked your style, views and opinions. Given BASC's history recently, if you look deeply enough, its not the sort of record i'd be proud of. A few more years of BASC welcomes, things like 10 year certs, medicals failure, lack of ANY legal action to support the sport, support for police who do not return the favour, even when totally justified, and I havent even mentioned the 2 chief Exce's prior to the current incumbent.
Even if a member of the band of 140000, who is bothered enough to vote a rebellious member into office ? Annual votes to Council rarely exceed 1800 per member elected - that's less than 2 percent. You can write, you can argue intelligently and NOTHING happens - The blunders and arrogance continue.
Sorry Charlie whilst I will still watch, I cant help BASC have a degree of control here, especially after the Game Fair/CP ban. If you are just supporting fieldsports, fair enough but we have seen an increasingly desperate attempt to divert criticism from BASC - I would hate to think you are part of that because you would lose all my respect. One post and surprise, its in support of BASC, yes they do have problems.

Hi Kes - I have lots of reasons to be cross with BASC, especially over their idiotic ban on CP - and they are not paying Fieldsports Channel for anything - but I accept that big organisations will behave like big organisations. Having a loud voice for shooting in government, top to bottom, is, for me, worth the idiocies. & I fully respect your view that it's not.

But they don’t have a loud voice though do they that’s the entire problem !

Still a gentleman I see !

Welcome back to the SD C.J :tiphat:
So are we to see to all the gang on here ! and shall you be becoming a trade member so we get can get first dibs on deals and shoot days only as I enjoyed my day at the Blaser :norty:

We would be better off with one organisation. Merge the best of all the various organisations and create 1 good voice to support the whole country in all disciplines !

Yes in theory but it would simply never work.
Is that not we already have in basc?? Look how that's turned out??
Wots to stop the next super duper org going in the exact same direction??
No other org has any member committees so would be even easier to go off on a tangent.

Look at the many arguments different viewpoints on here and this is really a stalking site where most should have a broadly similar interests and any game/target/clay shooting or wildfowling sites will have similar different viewpoints.
Then throw in fox hunting snareing or terrier work a very high % off shooters would throw them under bus, just as they would grouse shooting.
So when u mix it all up 1 faction will always never be happy

The problem with any big org or even companies or civil service/NHS/FC/councils etc they all end up the same, filled with a bunch off middle management that do bugger all good and only interest is, in keeping there job, usually by creating needless paper work that takes the few decent workers away from actually working

Chances are any new org would only fill will basc/CA rejects.
Look at the many other charities out there all the big 1s are just money generating monsters to pay wages and very little goes to intended purpose

Like it or not basc really should be our best hope, they should be member led.
( Althou so few folk vote won't help) and all ready have a communications centre, althou it seems to need more money for its eleccy meter as far far too quiet.

hands up all those in favour of head shots, or like the use thermal , long range shooting anyone. etc, etc, and that's just in relation to deer, while I fully agree with your reason and good intentions, I also see divisions before you even get it off the ground. and do you think the orgs themselves will want to share the pie?

edited to show,, as I typed it appears others think similarly[see above]

I think I'm a member of the BASC because I have a standing order with my bank.
I did get asked to vote once but none of them impressed me enough to bother.
As for anything else they offer I haven't a clue.

I am afraid this is part of the trouble. People won't even vote. If there is an election someone will be elected to sometimes it is just who is the least worst candidate and they should get your vote. Not voting is just abrogating responsibility. And please don't be like some who vote all politically correct and say "we need more women" (I agree we do in terms of shooting participants) but in terms of membership numbers women are considerably over represented on council already and the majority of them are very definitely, status quo, don't rock the boat types.

And there you have the real problem with BASC and other orgs. There are many who are only there for the insurance and don't take an active role in anything that THEIR organisation does. Don't get me wrong EMcC I don't mean to single you out, it is just that you probably gave a perfect representation of 80% of the members of BASC. Maybe this is where the blame really lies with the likes of BASC, they don't connect with their members and actively encourage participation.

My partner and I are both in the NGO and have been for years. We attend our local branch events and quiz nights that are well supported and raise funds for the NGO. I feel the NGO is more in touch with its members and is very approachable and its members put something back rather than just using it for the insurance.

I think if more people did what you do, they would probably get a better association that responds to their needs. At the end of the day these are your organisations they are not companies run for the shareholders.
