If nothing else this survey shows that whilst BASC has a lot to do to win back its lost members (and there's a lot of them), all it has to do is perform at a creditable and combative level.
Sadly it has not done that for years so, come on Brigadier - show us what you are made of !!

I started out with BASC for my first couple of years in the shooting world, but decided to leave when my renewal came up a few weeks ago. I will now spend my third year covered by C3.

Of course I do, however i wonder if you expect to much. Since when does the government ever listen. We are few. Firearms are a political football when the wants of a few can be sidelined by the security concerns of the many. Ignoring facts..such as most gun crime is committed by illegal firearms that have found their way into the country.

What would you like them to do?

I agree this is a proper whinge about basc but without any solution as to what we would like BASC to do? This year has been a constant battle day in day out. From what I can see BASC got all organisations together. I don’t see much difference between any of them. But from reading this thread it quiets obvious many are not members, So how do you all know what BASC are doing and not doing? They have new Chair and Vice and and seem very different from previous years.

it's obvious enough,, clean away the sh1t and the bad smell will go away.
it's the same old failure to address the real problems marched out every time, if knife crime rises, legislate knives, ditto handguns, ditto semi-auto c/f,etc,etc,[what's next I wonder] none of it having much if any reduction in crime. and what happens,, they open the bloody flood gates and continue to let every undesirable, criminal, extremist come rolling in making the problems worse.
and of course there's no shortage of people and organisations literally falling over themselves to help protect the poor criminals, terrorists, nutjobs, wackos, etc, sadly those we expect to guard and protect the better behaved members of society are without a champion.

As a current but 'disappointed' member, the dilemma you describe is the one I am currently struggling with.

why not put your concerns to the council members and see what happens I also see there’s a members Q&A coming up. We could go and ask the questions direct that’s been put on here.

I am a member of the BASC, but I am also a shareholder of Fieldsports Britain, and suggest that SD members should also become shareholders - spend a box of ammo's worth with them a year to fund them to keep doing what they are doing - more details at - Fieldsports Nation – explained

Cannot agree more. I have switch my support to the Fieldsports team. They seem to be on the case and doing a whole lot more than BASC. If you are in any doubt watch their YouTube channel.

Was the man that runs that ( Charlie jackoby) not on this thread earlier saying they don't do anything near the amount of work basc does??
And he was a firm basc supporter

I've been a long defender of basc on here, but I have to admit over the past 18+ month basc are completely undefendable, and seem to be getting worse, which didn't think was even possible!!!
Esp with the trophy hunting/shooting show nonsense.
They just can't seem to help shooting themselves in the foot at every turn.

Im stil a member, only just! As well as SGA, fact and songbird survival.

1 thing I still can't get my head round thou is folk the rightly critise basc for lack of a voice but then take on purely private insurance.
That means ur going from a quiet voice to absolutely no voice, makes no sense to me, esp when ur leaving because of the lack of voice.
By all means leave but atleast join another cheaper org, pretty much the same cash as private insurance anyway.

No sorry that’s incorrect it means going from no voice to no voice but a lot cheaper insurance ....

i think it’s out of despair people are jacking it in under the guise that why should I pay when field sports are under the biggest threat this country has ever seen - the threat is real and we ( as a field sports community) are letting or getting steam rolled into losing shooting in all areas and the people supposedly leading the fight aren’t doing enough in the right direction - personally I started with WAGBI and rolled along with changes to what it is now BASC I’ve supported the cause throughout that time - we need to drop everything and stand up and fight and repel this threat to each one of us as sportsman whatever you do this will effect one and all - general licences is the thin edge of the wedge, now it’s gameshooting what’s next. If we don’t stand up now shooting in all disciplines will change dramatically very quickly

Can I ask is this disappointing shooting organization being discussed on other forums or is it just on here.

Not disputing that and can understand it, but CA, NGO/SGA and Sacs are almost the same money.
They may not be doing any more than basc but are doing a hell off a lot more than a random private ins company who's purely in it for the money.

It's never been more important for shooters to be a member of an org, ANY Org.
That private company won't give a stuff if shooting is stopped.

But to leave moaning about lack of voice/action then join a private company just seems fairly hypocritical to me.
Esp when it would only cost u an extra 5er to join any of the above if that

If Ian Bell is reading this and wants to meet, I will happily buy him lunch in London and explain the size of the challenge he has ahead of him. I don't attend Qs&As.

Just got a phone call from my GP as renewing my certs they want £85.00 or no letter to the police.

Will now pay up and seriously consider not renewing my BASC membership next year.

Frustration beyond belief at the lack of a legal challenge by BASC.
