We all are rather disgusted with "The voice of shooting", but if you think the Police (who now make their own laws) give a toss you are mistaken.
They couldn't care less what BASC think, as far as they are concerned our organisations are miniscule clubs and have no voice in any decisions.
True,true, true. So forget it lads, obey the feds in every respect or else you've had it, and in 10 years time it will all be over anyway. It's the way of the new world order.☻☻☻

The only issue may be if you have a named GP, then only they can access your file however most practices do not allocate a single doctor to a patient these days so no problem. All well and good on the face of it, and it may be of interest to those with mercenary GPs who want to charge the £200 or so fees we are hearing about, but ............

how do medcert place the marker on your medical record held at the GP surgery that they've just taken the business away from?

I can't see the GP being a willing party to that if they've just been by-passed for the medical evidence letter, can you?
 
Marker? They send their report direct to the police. The police then make the final decision. Your GP then doesn't have to do a thing!

Yes marker, or 'encoded reminder'. Have a read of the HOG and any other other document relating to the medical evidence scheme and you'll see that in order to comply with the requirement for 'continuous monitoring' an encoded reminder must be placed on your medical records held at the GP surgery.

Without that being in place the GP will not know to inform the police if the FAC/SGC holder starts to show signs of going off the rails, or any other condition that may make him unfit to possess firearms. It will also impact on the whole premise of 'continuous monitoring', without which the likes of BASC cannot (now don't laugh :rofl: ) promise 10 year certificate life.

I thought you meant that marker, im not sure how this get added (I assume centrally) but either way it doesn't seem to be an issue. Our local FEO was also in attendance and didn't have any concerns. Actually provided a bit of support that the system may be improving for the better. (to be confirmed!)

Have a read of the HOG Annexe A then. The GP adds the marker, no input 'centrally' as you suggest. On the face of it the medicert outfit are unable to offer a service that fulfills the requirements of the medical evidence scheme as it stands. Maybe the FEO can be asked the question?
 
Dan with all due respect you would do well to read some of the content re medical reports on this forum.

No marker or encoder can be added centrally, your registered GP is your data controller under GDPR and their are strict rules on who can access your medical records even for direct medical care purposes, and firearms are certainly not direct medical care. Your medical records are held only at your GP surgery their is no national central database.
These records depending on your age will be in two formats; Lloyd George paper records and for (most) us oldies together with digital Summary Care Records.

It is virtually impossible for medicert or any alternative GP to gain access to your paper records. They can, like you can, with your consent access your online summary care records. But unless you are a teenager theses will not be your medical history for your life. For example my SCR are for only 1/3 of my life 2/3 are paper records.

Yet the Kent and others police template letter ask your GP if you have EVER had or suffered from certain relevant medical conditions clearly unless you are a teenager medicert or the alternative GP cannot fulfil the EVER condition.

I emailed medicert several weeks back and asked them to explain how they were complying with the EVER condition but they have never replied.

To make a false declaration to obtain firearms by either the applicant or the GP is a criminal act.

However it is not the responsibility of medicert or the alternative GP to add the marker that you own firearms to your medical records this is done at the request of the police by your registered GP after the police have granted the certificate.
HOG2016. However if your GP has refused to engage in the process then it is likely they will not place the marker on your records.

And as my own recent experience of renewing my own certificate has shown when I stated to the FEO he did not need a GP report because I have a marker in my medical records he said the report was still required as even with the marker GPs have no legal duty to inform the police if you start to suffer from any of the relevant medical conditions.

So a one day in five year MOT.

This is a mess. But we have to keep paying and playing the game.

Dan, could you please provide me with the medicert reps name and if possible contact details via Private message if you like.

I will then write to the chief constable of Kent and Kent crime commissioner and ask if this is acceptable practice.

As clearly BASC etc have no intentions of confirming this is acceptable and saving potentially a lot of us a lot of money.
Or as I have suggested to BASC they offer the service as part of your BASC membership.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but didn't BASC actually consider or engage with medicert at one time (before they went all coy about it)?

If they did, and now medicert are approaching local organisations themselves touting for business it says to me that their 'service' may not actually be worth much.
 
Just wait to the next licensing fee review, the police will use the high doctors fee we are nearly all willing to pay as a big leaver to significantly increase the licensing fee as currently most GPs are getting a lot more for doing a lot less than the police get.

Not heard of that but was in a local shooting club the other week and a GP in the area was advertising his services for £50 on a poster on the wall.

So we can all stop using our registered GP and visit a random GP who has never met you and get your incomplete medical history approved. Really is becoming a nice little earner and growth industry for GPs.

In fact I was thinking of starting a new shooting organisation £70 a year to join and you get insurance, a medical report and a monthly news letter telling you nothing positive. I could make a fortune.

The milk of human kindness has 'gone orf', and with it my respect for the majority of the medical profession, the dental profession (have you got a budget for implants), politicians et cetera.
At least I'm honest but I dont know about you lot !

Got all the information I need will write to the chief constable over the weekend, but the shooting organisation should be all over this explaining how it works etc.

Did have, he resigned a while back. Quite a distinctive name and if you punt it into a few search engines it provokes a few interesting responses and some pics of the guy. Anyone know him, or was he the ‘representative’ who gave the spiel to the wildfowler’s meeting?
