i had a large crypto peerless, handled rabbits and hares with ease, you can get the hobart mixers that have an attachment they seem pretty goof
Id suggest you don't feed raw rabbit, minced or whole, suckers are generally infested with worms that will affect your dog.Hi,
We have an 8yr old male Rhodesian Ridgeback that is currently on a raw diet. He’s just over 50kg and has 1kg of Nutriment Raw per day.
Looking to cut the cost of buying his food in, so am toying with the idea of buying a mincer and doing my own, to run alongside his
Looking to mince it rather than feed chunks / whole as he’s only ever had mince and the Mrs is a bit funny with food with a face so to speak.
Can anyone advise on a mincer that would cope with a rabbit / chicken carcasses?
Thanks

Not nice to deal with at all.
Thanks for the information re freezing and parasites, but how do you get a frozen bunny into the mincer? It’s widely accepted and known, reported in literature that if you freeze the rabbit for 2 weeks first in deep freeze that it will kill off parasites

Freeze meat for as long as seven to 10 days and fish for at least 24 hours in a freezer with a temperature of -31 F (-35C) to kill tapeworm eggs and larvae. It’s widely accepted and known, reported in literature that if you freeze the rabbit for 2 weeks first in deep freeze that it will kill off parasites

To kill the trichinella parasite, freeze a portion of meat that is six inches or less in thickness at 0 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 30 days. This treatment should kill the parasite. Freezing does NOT kill nor eliminate bacteria from meat.

Whatever way you choose to feed your dog, it should be regularly wormed anyway.Id suggest you don't feed raw rabbit, minced or whole, suckers are generally infested with worms that will affect your dog.

Nahhh, only jokin!Seriously?
Defrost it!

We used to feed raw, initially adding our own veg, then adding a herb mix. After 3 years I was not convinced that they were any better than on quality complete dry food or complete wet food - so we have retuned to that.
There is definitely a macho image to feeding raw, not on here, but elsewhere. Lots of hash-tag (whatever that means) as Nature intended stuff - muscle-flexing - we are all Vikings - nonsense. Then there are varying degrees of debates on feather/fur on or off - guts in or out. IMHO Nature never intended 100% pure meat - most carnivores derive a lot more than '100% meat' from their quarry.
I have found the exact opposite,
And while I agree with you 100% meat is not what dogs need to the exclusion of all else, but meat, bone, offal, vegetable matter, even fruit would be ingested from a typical dog pack kill, and any trace elements the dogs digestive processes are designed to extract.
I do not believe dogs were ever vegans, vegetarians, or consumers of maize, corn and all manner of bulkers used in commercial kibble type dog feeds. there are many well documented cases of deaths directly involving processed dog foods, mainly down to the need to undercut the competition and increase profits. if you choose to look you will find them and make a decision as you choose. I did, and I made my choice. I am happy with it, my vet is more than happy with the condition of my dogs and often compliments me on this.
of course there are and always be incidents of illnesses and fatalities through bad hygiene and animal husbandry.
some people [as has come to be known recently] cannot even look after the basic needs of a child of the same species as themselves, just take a look at the processed crap kids are given on a daily basis.
small wonder pets are fed on that which is "convenient" more than what is correct for that particular animal.
raw food isn't a "latest fad" dogs have been doing it since before they were conned into being mans best friend.
for the record I am not a Viking, nor do I need to portray a "macho image". nor do I subscribe to the "fur is a natural wormer" school of thought.
and neither am I looking for confrontation, or bullying anyone.![]()
