Dogtra Tracking Collars?

Hi,

I’m currently looking into a gps collar for my GWP after at 5.5months he took off after a Roe buck in the woods the other day! I have seen the Dogtra but they seem to include the “training” function which if I’m not mistaken is being banned here in the UK?

I can’t afford a Garmin unit but don’t want to waste money on rubbish that will fail after a couple of hundred metres in the wood!

Any opinions or other suggestions?
Cheers

You could always spend a bit of time in training him ??? At 5.5 months you’ve got the ideal candidate...

We are at group training every week and 1-1 training every other as well as everyday at home and on walks and have been since 12 weeks old, he is fine on recall normally he just took off on this occasion as is not uncommon with this breed so I’ve seen.

We weren’t stalking this was out on his daily walk, his recall is normally spot on! First time he’s seen a deer and just took off straight after it!

Personally and this is only my opinion and yes I don’t know you but if you need to go to all those training classes you’ve got the wrong breed of dog. I’ve have a nearly 2 yr old gwp and has only recently been taken for ‘walks’ tho over the last nearly 2 years has been out every day either stalking(with or without rifle). You need to get them into this mindset before they find their own mindset and then you’ve lost. Electric collars or not..

Google the TK 102b gps tracker, sim card required, it gives you by text latitude and longitude and also a link to google maps its location + or - 5 meters accuracy. Get one on ebay for around £10, I would pay a bit more for the extra battery and charger. Also get 02 classic sim card off ebay, only 2p per text, keep as chips. Ebay number below,

I got a dogtra Pathfinder from Ian a few years ago and it has worked faultlessly except for one detail last month which was easily remedied. It does add a large level of confidence knowing where your dog is, when my GWP goes on point at birds somewhere she is often invisible in woodland or in heather so at least I know exactly where she is and have very often shot what she was pointing at which really does make my day especially when you get a retriever in as well.
All that said they are not a replacement for a good foundation of training, merely an aid.
