Leather - old guncase straps very dry

Ah! The reason why perhaps? Although unlike cow leather it is waterproof. But Mr Brady had also conveyed that despite warning customers against it he'd still seen too many of his guncases (which were cow leather) where Connolly's has been used where the leather had then become parted from what it was glued to underneath. He recommended Mansion Wax which in UK you can't get for years now.

Collective wisdom please. I have a couple of old leather cases where the keather, in particular straps abd on the edges has got rather dry and almost crumbly. What would you use to revitalise these. I have recommended a dubin type product as used on bridles etc And once that has soaked in then something like snowseal to give a good finish.

My father had some remarkable successes with Flexalan on his vintage cars' seat leather...They looked very dry and surface cracked, but came up very supple with a couple of treatments with Flexalan.

Just found it cheaper buying it direct from maker...£9.40 posted...

Beats foot oil for really dry straps general cleaning I just use ballistic oil way to use leaves a nice sheen

Neats foot oil for horse tack I use to use it on falconry leather when it got dry and it was brilliant

Ko-Cho-Line. I once knew a Deputy Director of Leicestershire Museums. He swore by it. For just what you have as your issue. But as DALUA says what Carr Day & Martin don't know about leather isn't worth knowing, give them a call.

That's the stuff.

I renovate gun cases as a hobby. I use a couple coats of Urad shoe cleaner followed by a couple of coats of old Fiebings Aussie leather conditioner, does the trick see the before and after
