I had a similar beef when I did mine with them too Uncle F, I thought they would be better off sending the notes/folder out to students on confirmation of a place, as I like so many I'm sure didn't realise the diversity of the subjects covered.

I did the BDS one a few years back and thought it was excellent, it was run by Dominic Griffiths, Chris Howard and Glyn Ingram, great wealth of knowledge there

Well that's not really surprising surely if this is an 'advanced' course, and DMQ training only goes as far as DSC level 1?

I'm booked on to the BDS course which is called the Deer Management Course, the Jelen one is called the Advanced Deer Management course both Lantra approved courses......are they the same qualification? Is the 'Advanced' bit just a case of Jelen PW 'sexing it up'?

The NGO also do one called the 'Even More Advanced Deer Management Course'. You'd best do all three, just in case...

Both the Jelen and BDS Deer Management courses are very good courses. But they are different and have a different emphasis on the way the course is written. Both continue to evolve and are updated as the industry changes and topics such as night shooting licenses, thermal imaging, new diseases etc or other relevant info becomes common place.
It depends what outcome you need or require. Both are Lantra Approved courses and both are recognised and respected in the industry. The only difference is the BDS DMC has been running significantly longer and has run in various forms through the years, in part to remain competitive but also to fit in with needs of paying delegates.

If a Lantra ticket does it only last 5 yrs?
Most lantra tickets I've heard off have a 5yr life span, and I know a few companies refuse to recognise them full stop.

I dont know the official answer to your question, I can find out on monday. However, my personal view on the 5 year thing with lantra is usually where there is an operational risk or technical skill that needs to be maintained and checked, like chainsaw units or pesticide application for example.
However the DM course is a theory based course and is accredited by Lantra, which is just the awarding body for 'land based training.' I'm not sure that you would need to do a refresher after 5 years, however I am happy to be corrected.

U could well be right about the practical Vs theory thing.
Generally I'm used to proffessional practical courses, if I see anything listed as Lantra I keep on looking, while nothing wrong with the training the qualifications are useless worthless and not recognised very widely, atleast in a professional sense.
Nptc tickets even practical 1s have no expiry dates and are recognised by everyone.
