.243 70 gr Blitzking N140

Can anyone help me?

I've been searching through the various postings for .243 Winchester loads for 70 grain Blitzkings with N140, and can't find anything definitive.

I'm looking for what people are using in this combination, to then work up my own load.

The various load manuals seem to be ambiguous…

From the Relative Burn Rates, Varget and N140 are almost identical, yet the Sierra reloading manual I looked at said a maximum of 41.1 gr Varget and 38.6 gr N140.

I've read of someone using 42.5 gr of N140...

I'm specifically interested in using N140 due to current and possible future powder availability issues.

I've had 19 years of reloading and can recognise pressure signs...

Any help greatly appreciated.

Viht seem to get more conservative with their load data. I suspect that the formulation of some of their powders has been slightly tweaked over the years, too. Certainly, for years I used 42.5 grains of N140 (which was below their published max load years ago) safely and without signs of excess pressure in several 243s with 70 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips. I would not use that now.

I worked up a load with n140 and 70 grain nosler with n140 and no pressure signs.... I recently loaded the same with some new n140 and they are showing extractor marks and stiff bolt lift - looks like I need to start again...

That mirrors my experience, Eric. I see there’s no data on the Vihtavuori site for N140 with 70 grain bullets in the 243, but I bet you end up around 39 grains as a max load now.

Interested to hear how you get on mate as I am considering the same load since I have n140 for the 308 and H4895 is......
Cheers

I am at 42gr N140 with 65gr Vmax. 243. About to start working a load for 70gr Nosler Vermaggedons.
Also using the N140 in my 8x57JS.

With regard to Vihtavuori load data changing. I seem to recall that they used to state. Use the data for the year of manufacture of the powder. This was when the data was published as a pdf and multiple years were available. My powder was a few years old at the time and I used a higher weight than the then current data.

You will be fine with this from the Vihtavuori app. Might not get the best speed from 70’s but will be safe. I used data for 90’s when loading for 87 Vmax as there was a lack of data for it. 8C2F5040-46B8-42B8-8208-3DE6BFFE4577.webp

I currently load 37.5 grains of N140 with both 70grain varmagedons and blitzkings.. i started at 36grn and worked up for a consistent grouping. I have no signs of pressure, and left it there. N140 41.5 with 58vmax with a shorter oal. Both very accurate out of my 24 inch browning bolt.

You could try RS60 (same as RL17) if you are worried about supply issues with American powders

What Muzzle velocity are you getting with the 70grn bullets?

Maybe this would help has anyone tried these loads?

I’m thinking of trying the 70grn Blitzking and also toying with the idea of the 55grn Blitzking.
Does anyone have any feedback on either.

Hi G4zz, I use 55grn blitzkings in my 223, they are awesome in my Howa. That's why I went for them in my 243 but gone for the 70 gen.
