What knife do recommend? Im looking to purchase oneWould be grateful to hear from anyone who has looked at purchasing/or has purchased either the Emberleaf Cael or Ventari? Struggling to decide between the two, will be for roe, fallow and muntjac. Cheers.
What knives would you recommend? All I’ll say on the matter is having owned both a cael and Garron, there are better blades out there for a lot less money.
Tin hat on and awaiting the incoming barrage but they have become a must have designer accessory in my opinion, knives are tools, they get used and abused, a good quality “handmade” knife can be easily sourced for well under half the money of these and will do as good a job if not better.
I've had a cael for a couple of years. Absolutely love it. Does everything you ask on the deer you mention. Yes you could do it with a cheaper knife but I enjoy it as the work of art it is as well as what it does.Would be grateful to hear from anyone who has looked at purchasing/or has purchased either the Emberleaf Cael or Ventari? Well. I’ve got two Caels, a garron, Artemis and now a ventari. The ventari comes out more often than not. For £500 for the knife let’s look at the maths.
Dean at Emberleaf has told me that on a standard (not special handle etc) Cael, garron ventari etc there is approx £130 worth or materials to include blade, rivets, sheath material leather/kydex. Then it’s about 10-12 hours work start to finish. Let’s say labour cost of £20.00 per hour that £200 labour add the materials £130 then it’s £330.00
Sold to the end user at £500 including the 20%vat
That makes it about £410.00 ish minus the £330 cost that’s £90.00 profit which will pay for rent, business rates, trade stands at shows when there on!!!! Not a busting load is it for a skilled job.
I can assure all that there all hand made and produced. Two ex army lads who work 6 days a week and are now reaping what they have sowed for the past 8-9 years.
Alan Wood, guy stainthorp etc knives are all around the same price with stuart Mitchel being a touch dearer for some
Danum blades stuff approx £450. So for a great product I don’t think it’s a lot of money really. It’s certainly not any kind of rip off.
There are others just as good I’m sure but around the same money. Whatever Knife you choose the Emberleaf’s are great knives. Equally so Alan woods, Danum bladed etc. Good luck in your choice

Yep your opinion no problem. But all handles are hand done I even watched em do two of mine
Thanks for replying. Sounds like your preference is the Ventari?Well. I’ve got two Caels, a garron, Artemis and now a ventari. The ventari comes out more often than not. For £500 for the knife let’s look at the maths.

Or you could contact Stuart Mitchell (Sheffield) and have a knife handmade to your spec not that far from you and it would be handmade for you.Would be grateful to hear from anyone who has looked at purchasing/or has purchased either the Emberleaf Cael or Ventari? Struggling to decide between the two, will be for roe, fallow and muntjac. Cheers.
So that’s why you flogged itThat entirely depends on your personal preference and circumstances.
I don’t have just one knife, I really rate Puma knives, good quality and solid, and at a sensible price, still not “cheap” by any stretch but much more affordable.
A lot depends on species and purpose, I like a big knife for reds, decent length if ever the need arises to stick one in the chest, 5-6 inches is more use that smaller blades. For reds I have a “Puma Elkstag”.
I have smaller knives for roe and munties..... a lot comes down to individual needs, I found the shape of the Emberleaf cael lovely for munty and roe, but having the first one chip when working through the cartilage on the ribcage of a roe buck, it was unceremoniously returned. The Garron that replaced it was fine but I just couldn’t see the point in it when others could do the job just as well for a lot less....
