South Africa set to reopen

Our little band of hunters were due in Mozambique next month: long ago had that kicked into the long grass.
Here's hoping for 2021.

Advertised flights with SAA are over £2k return!

Airlink (will transport firearms unlike the others) showing more routes and now include Port Elizabeth and East London.

Virgin Atlantic's website seems to be offering flights for next year (July ish) at about £650 return to Jo'burg - seems too good to be true?

Anyone know if they allow firearms?

UK and USA are on the restricted countries, they have cancelled all visas. When we come off it you will need a visa and a clear covid test taken 72 hours before landing (so no chance of that with out testing facilities).
Virgin carry firearms as a separate piece of luggage so you have to pay. SAA are not bailed out yet by the government. You can only use SA Airlink for internal flights at present until SAA is sorted out.
So it's a cluster ****!!

Work wise I've been trying to get a team of Engineers into Cape Town from Houston and its just not happening. Even though things are easing the SA government are lifting restrictions to BRICS nations first due to trade (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) I'm getting indications this may ease in November but im personally doubtful.

Virgin carry firearms as part of your 20kg allowance and if you have to take more than 20kg clothes and ammo included you can buy another 20 kg allowance for £60

Plus your ammo has to go separate and not in the hold luggage so another cost unless you point to the poster behind check in and they waive the fee.

I find with all the airlines that the check-in folks are usually relatively unsure on what to charge for with firearms. If you're nice to the girl, you can generally steer her towards the cheaper solution...

Not always true.
The last time we tried to fly back out of Jo'berg there was a very pretty girl behind the jump who has the most beautifully platted hair.
There were four of us. I thought to myself, if I turn on the charm here I am sure I can get an upgrade from steerage. I promise you this happened.

"Hello there, we are booked in for the London Heathrow flight. Can I just say I think your hair is fantastic, my brother is a hairdresser (true) and that is a work of art".

"Thank you Mr. Stalker. Actually my sister does my hair and it does take a while to get it like this. Now about your flight. It is cancelled and you will not be able to fly out until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest."

Serves me bloody right.

I do not know if anyone has ever done an impromptu overnight stay in Jo'berg? At the risk of offending others - I do not recommend it. A hotel bar full of Australian engineers and women (ahem) of a certain profession. That and the worst pizza (delivery only - do not dare leave the confines of the hotel) to have every passed my lips.

Yeah S62, compliment the girl on her hair, that will get you an upgrade, you arse.

Looking at their current T's and C's they don't. Hopefully, you're right and these will be updated at the end of the month. I for one would welcome a link down to PE. For reference, here is their current firearms transport position; clause 7.1.8 refers:

7 BAGGAGE
