It's been standard practice for the FEO to ascertain close associates and those that share the shooters household for a good many years in my area. Normally this is done discreetly by asking a few informal discreet questions regarding the health of the family and does so and so still live at home. That's where experience and the old village bobby approach comes in. In the past he/she would pop in for a cup of tea and a chat occasionally, but all the time he was picking up bits of intelligence in the form of gossip and chit chat. There was absolutely nothing that our local bobby didn't know about years ago, he also lived in the village so made sure that he was on top of things. Unfortunately long gone now hence the need to obtain such information by direct questioning often in the form of a questionnaire.

They still pick up on information though, and act on it if they see fit. Not so long ago a shooter told me that he had a visit from the FEO. The shooter had a son who was involved with drugs and drug crime. They had got to hear that the son had moved back in with the FAC holder. He was told in no uncertain terms that either the son relocated or they would be revoking his FAC on the grounds of security.
This isn't the only similar case that I know of locally and I've also heard of it happening in at least one other area.

in the current covid situation all of the forces are minimising the amount of visits that they can do. My brother in law is a FEO and works from home currently using a laptop to access job computer systems. Therefore any questions that they would normally ask in the process of 'having a chat' they have no other option but to come straight out with and ask by email/text/letter/message from god/smoke signals...... this would be on top of doing the normal checks via PNC, local/national intelligence systems on you and your address. even before i retired we picked up info from the likes of facebook and other social media on some people

Talking of village bobbies, I remember when I was in my late teens, working behind the bar in our village pub. A fight broke out and the landlord immediately asked me to phone PC Maxwell, our much-respected and loved bobby who lived above the one-cell village police station.

I'll never forget his response: "I'm busy baby-sitting at the moment, Carl. Can you call Mike Ashton, the pig farmer instead? He's a big fella and will sort it out for you."

PC Maxwell also used to stand at the village station on a Saturday morning, vetting people visiting the village from the town. If he didn't like the look of any of the youngsters, he would put them straight back on the train and send 'em on their way.

Still brings a smile when I think back.

Nic I've been in Licensing meetings where police officers have divulged information that was picked up from Facebook.
I can't believe the sort of information that some people put on there, admissions of breaking the law or indicating their intent to do so.

(ii) checks with other licensing or regulatory bodies or enforcement agencies;
(iii) a drug or alcohol test;
(iv) credit or other financial checks;
(v) information obtained from open source social media;
(vi) interviews with individuals other than the applicant or their referees, for example, neighbours, partners or representatives of shooting clubs attended by the applicant;
(vii) background or medical checks on partners or other individuals living at, or with unsupervised access to, the applicant’s address; and
(viii) checks where there is an indication of domestic violence or abuse, as set out in paragraphs 2.45 – 2.50.

GMP have a separate form that is not included in the fifteen page renewal but they ask for it in the renewal letter or letters i got two one for shotgun one for firearms this was in august renewal in january

I only complete the forms that I am legally required to submit. I do not complete any local supplemental forms, if they want to complete them let them carry on. It's their form they can fill it in.

That is correct, but there is nowhere on the form that actually asks you to fill in the details of other people in your dwelling.

I don't see any harm in answering the question on the form. It does say its not a legal requirement but they will find out eventually. I think if you decline you may well delay your application/renewal

Its not a "non standard locally produced form "
It is Gov issue form 201 15 pages with an added page asking you who else lives in the house .

If you do not wish to answer it that's up to you. As far as you saying they can fill it in themselves to do so they would still have to ask you the question

Never been asked about others in the household from day one of the white card from the post office let alone my Issuing force . No page 16 here ? another Quango form I expect

form 201 = 15 pages & 201V ? =4 pages
If you could please send . gov.uk/government link to this new form and information requested it will help others out . Only as this could mean waiting longer for a cert to be renewed Or upcoming certs to be processed and it will become a balls up if they have not included it standard all over the UK as yet ! or come to it told the UK Government to included it on the web site ? ?

Hogey its definitely not part of the standard Form 201 -2017 used by my local force, I've just checked.
I strongly suspect that your local force has piggybacked their own part on to the standard H.O. issued form.
