MDT chassis for sako 85s

Contact MDT direct

They will answer in minutes if working - I don’t think they do this inlet (Sako 85)

You are unlikely to be able to adapt an alloy chassis inletted fit one action to another unless they are similar in the first place (T3 and 85 are not )

I deal with MDT quite a lot (direct) and have never had any issue with them regarding supply, enquiries or their product support

If you post a question and they are in work it’s likely to be answered in minutes rather than hours

I’ve done a search for you for the Sako 85 inlet on their product locator and can’t find anything listed

Thanks il have another go at contacting them again then. I’m an engineer so altering the stock wouldn’t be a massive problem as long as the majority of the sako action would fit into the tikka slot, I can’t find any pictures of the actions to confirm what would need to be altered.

Have you considered the issues with getting the T3 mag inlet re machined so you can lock up / align with the Sako action magazine

You may be better starting from scratch with a piece of alloy

To be honest I like the look and sound of the MDT chassis, I heard that tikkas are similar to sako’s and that’s what put me down this train of thought, I’ve never actually seen a tikka action in the flesh so asking what’s the difference and could it be done. If somebody had pictures of the actions side by side then that would be most helpful

If I have to machine bits I’m absolutely fine with that, seems hard as I can’t find any pictures of the two actions to compare what’s so different, also worth while doing.

I have one of each on route from Proof

The Sako is a medium length (308) action

Anyway once they are back with me - I’ll post images so you may compare and then see the difficulties presented

The T 3 action is quite versatile - the Sako not so

That would be brilliant, that’s exactly what I’m after. Many thanks

It might be simpler to change your rifle and replace it with a Tikka t3?
Regards
JCS

Yes that was another option but I do love these rifles, and ones got a custom barrel on it as well, that’s why I’m so keen to get a MDT chassis to fit if possible

Ok

as promised

You might get away with it - depends how much material is available to machine the pocket for the rear and forward action screws and the difference in contour / radius between T3 and 85 are obvious

Plus the bolt angle is different

@Ronin isn’t the Sako .308 action an “S” you have referred to it as both a medium action and S.

Although I must admit next to the T3 and R700 it does look rather long.

An 85 in 6mm creedmoor would be a nice combination to own 😎

Your quite right Dave - the 85 depicted is indeed an S action

Easy to get confused with Sako designations of the 75/85

I have a 75 in 243 waiting for rebarrelling, if I have the time I may put that alongside for interest

At least the rear action screw hole is just about the same distance to the trigger between them, one reference point.

That’s awesome thanks very much, the pictures are just the information I needed. I’m really tempted at ordering a t3 chassis now.
