One for all trousers recommendations

Looking for recommendations for decent general use hunting trousers. Have been through the generic walking trousers , decathlon, under armour, revolution race .. wrecked them all.
Most use will be for hill terrain , must be waterproof at minimum, not after heavy winter trousers - ideally 2 / 3 season. Preferably also have reinforced seat & knees.
Budget around £150 or looking at more ?

I have, like you been through most options and still not found a great solution for the hill.

A few of the pro hill stalkers I know in Scotland use the Hagloef Rugged Mountain Pants (£120) which are supposed to be tough as teak - then a pair of ex Army Goretex over trousers (£25) when it's really wet. I use the latter now and will buy the former when the rest of my 'water resistant' trousers give up the ghost.

Any single layer that is truly waterproof seems to be too thick thus sweaty.

Having tried over the years to find something waterproof, hard wearing and breathable trousers wise for the hill, I've decided it's a hopeless quest - most wet out in the end, and the ones that don't leave you wet with sweat which in my eyes is worse. In my eyes there is nothing better than proper length plus fours in decent heavyweight tweed, they breath, are comfortable, and whilst they will get damp you stay warm, and as they are a bit baggy they aren't necessarily against your skin. If the weather is truly terrible, I'll put a pair of flecktarn bibs over the top, but generally speaking these don't come out often and I'm more than happy in my plus fours.

And, an additional positive, is that it makes that hot bath and dram at the end of the day even better!

i like the seeland Hawker shell trousers, can get warm if its hot out and your powering through but the sips on the side can be opened to vet your legs, as well as that they are wind and waterproof so if you do get a downpour you should be okay. ive worn mine in some awful weather and no complaints so far, think i paid about 100 for them

How old are they? I was a Reservist in the early 90s and the modern Goretex ones are different class to those I had, much quieter, thinner and less stiff (Actually the best ones I have off ebay - looking at the lable are US ones it seems: 'Trousers, extended, cold weather, camouflage' made by Federal Prison Industries, Manchester, KY!'

I was in the Marines from 2010 til last year and a reserve now so got the old dpm to the new stuff and everything in between, the newer stuff has been crap to be honest I was swapping them in every few months

The DPM goretex were more robust that the newer MTP versions. But they are still not at all "stealthy" if you need to do any creeping up on quarry.

Pretty good at keeping the rain out in high seats and other ambush positions though.

I bought a pair of the Deerhunter Cumberland trousers recently from a dealer in Cumbria (not sure if I'm allowed to mention them as a non-sponsor). They were reduced from £159.99 to £59.99 and they are excellent. Warm, light, waterproof, reinforced knees and butt, quiet and comfortable. I ended up buying the matching jacket too. Highly recommended.
