Many years ago, A pub used to be situate tight up against the city walls next the Eastgate, A chair always vacant on one side of the bar parlour, non of the regulars would sit in it, something to do with anyone who did sit there had to buy a round for everyone present.Well this may ruffle some feathers...
When I was serving I was indeed "invited" to join the club. I was invited on two distinct occasions; the second time by a colleague who had more antlers that an Imperial Red.
In a previous life I had been an Engineer. I get that in a "club" such as the one we all know we are talking about, it could be useful to form alliances with those of similar trades/professions. I help you, you help me, sort of thing.
As a Police Officer the only "commodity" I had was integrity and that was not for trade. No offence to those who are members.
Also, whilst serving I managed to break my back and neck and so was "out of commission" for a wee while. My first social event - post recovery was an invite to a "Ladies Night". I went and was grateful to do so. During the evening I sat in a very ornate chair - the uproar this caused was ludicrous. Apparently it was some sort of "Throne".
Yeah. Not for me thanks.
Never on the square but always on the level...I knew you were not on the square as soon as I saw you .
