So now that we have completely left the EU...

Well the website is showing the price as inc VAT, so they are not conforming with the rules, in that they are not deducting German VAT from the price. Here's a link to the webpage for the wine rack. But I am definitely not advocating buying one you understand. It was OK value last year, but grossly over-priced now!

I thought it was for goods valued below £135...which I assumed was €150 when the deal was struck.
If less than £135 then the EU seller has to charge the U.K. vat and open an account with the U.K. inland revenue and pay the U.K. vat on behalf of the U.K. purchaser. Which is why some are no longer selling to the U.K.

Bottom line in theory is you cannot avoid the U.K. vat in practice depends what the seller declares and how efficient the boarder agency/couriers are. Be careful if suggesting the seller undervalues the goods to save VAT because if the goods get lost or damaged then you can only claim for the declared value.

IMHO, an EU based seller, selling goods to the UK, should not be charging VAT.
The VAT should be collected by customs via the company doing the shipping (UPS, FEDEX, DHL etc)
However, i understand that online sellers based outwith the UK and wishing to sell goods into the UK are now supposed to register with HMRC for UK VAT, charge the UK buyer VAT at 20% when the online purchase is made and then give that money to HMRC at the end of every quarter.
That might explain why EU based sellers are now refusing to sell goods to potential buyers in the UK or are putting their prices up to cover the additional administration required by their UK VAT registration.

Cheers

Bruce
I think that is probably a very good explanation. Unfortunately it is even worse for UK companies if they have to follow the same rules and send VAT to every one of the EU nations. I'm guessing thats why some are not interested in selling outside the UK now.

Pleased to report that the kg of 48 month Parmesan I ordered arrived today in about a week from Italy with no issues!
VaccaRosso, I do hope!

For an additional £6 you can up the game a tad, from 32 bottles to 108:

Or extend the room a little, and have more for less:

I know, the aesthetic effect is less, but the anaesthetic effect, on the other hand... 🍷🍷

I did look at the wider racks but I was limited for space - a max 35 cms width was what I was after.

And the 32 bottle capacity of the delivered product is just about sufficient for the average 8 person dinner party, once we are allowed that again - if we use the normal lockdown measures for alcohol.

Eight person “dinner party”. How posh is that!

We have a bring your own beer/wine, burn stuff on the BBQ, get shitfaced and pi*s in the garden. Surely that is not just a Debm thing.......Please say it’s not!

Bearing in mind the dining room is larger than the pocket handkerchief the estate agent laughably described as the garden, it kind of makes sense to eat inside.

So I get people to bring their own beer/wine, the mrs burns stuff in the oven, we get sh1tfaced round the table and we pi*s in the..............downstairs loo. The garden is overlooked by several very close neighbours, and it is always embarrassing when my guests get hauled away by the boys in blue for indecent exposure.

Not very different, or posh, actually!
Can I come?
Sure, no problem. Just remember to bring your own poison and preferably half a deer carcass with you.
