If any of you CWD virgins want to book for later this winter, let me know. Taking bookings already. Sika I am fully booked for this year.

I was that CWD virgin.

Went out with sikamalc last year, to break my CWD cherry and complete the UK six.

There is no denying it, the bloke gets results.

Great question and vote. I'd be interested in the outcome. Like most, I've probably stalked an excess of 1 or 2 species, while only "ticked off" a further 1 or 2 species. I keep wondering how best to confidently get the other UK or European species with reliable outfitters / individuals where you are going to get the real experience and have a good shot (see what I did there!) at bagging the other species. Weve probably all gone out with good folks and had dud experience....and the "kill" is not all I'm after....I can't imagine I'm alone.

I hate to tell you guys but there is a deer species you now need. Someone has recently released a new species out. Hog deer is now on the list
No doubt there are other species walking about. I had a client off this site shoot a Manchurian Sika hind on one of my leases in West Sussex a few years back. I know that Chital/ Spotted deer have been seen in Oxfordshire I believe. Hog deer I have not heard of in the wilds of the UK. Barashinga I have had through my hands many years back, several escaped from a zoo near where I used to live.
Reports of Racoon dogs in the UK are slightly worrying though. This is one species we do not need or want.

Shot all six over the years, cwd and red's with Malc as a thank you for helping out with his clients. The rest on my own ground.
Just a note if you boil out cwd's don't leave them in the boiler for very long ( they go to mush, but I do have some very shiny long tusks.)

I.ve eaten Formosan Sika in Norfolk, got to say it was lush. CWD is very different, lots of fat on the back, but delicious. FS takes the biscuit.

Just need to tick off sika and red.

I keep going up to our ground in Scotland hoping for a red but just never quite got the shot yet. Hopefully this year, as last year was kyboshed by the plague...

Tend to shoot mainly roe but did ok on the fallow this season and have had a few munty as well.

I prefer Sika. But CWD comes close.

I think sika is astonishingly good, but have never had CWD.

A Swiss friend who I gave some sika to said it tasted very much like horse (which he meant as a compliment). I wonder if anyone here can comment on this comparison...

Tesco may want to restock on the horse again then!

I’m convinced sika is the best I have ever had. While stalking with Malc my brother shot nice spiker. Sandra managed to turn that into the finest venison I’ve ever had - and that would include comparison to the North American species.

I’ve been fortunate to shoot 3 of 6, need fallow and the little two little ones. But to be honest, I enjoyed my stalk down south but it’s the Highlands that makes me want to return again and again. Too bad there aren’t a few little deer up in the far north.
