Annoyed beyond words.....

What's the point of threads like this if they cannot serve as a warning to others through a lack of critical information?

If the owner of the lease is capable and willing to resolve/deal with the issue then the thread is moot as the issue will have been taken in hand; and if the owner of the lease isn't interested then the only reason to post this would be to warn others.

I hope I don't come across as a bit short but you realise it's unnacceptable beaviour, you don't need us to tell you.

Point taken. I am still waiting for the owner of the lease to call me back. After I have spoken to him I will write up my experiences with this place and name them.

Good man. Just make it factual, non-slanted or biased and put in in the Articles and Write Up section. then people can form their own opinions, and you cannot be held accountable for putting anything in a public forum that affects this guys business. once it's on there, maybe as the admin to remove this thread, to avoid being able to link the two, just in case the owner of the business wants to sue you for defamation.

These things are always regrettable, a simple statement of the facts will allow people to make up their own minds and keep you beyond reproach.

If you transfer this to another sport, salmon fishing for example, and booked a day on a two rod beat (with ghillie) would you seriously expect to start the day sharing the beat not only with another rod but with the ghillie too? I think not

I cannot imagine why you did not sort this out at the beginning of the day :???:

Then we get into how many rilfes were carried, loaded, by the group. I have just re-read my DSC notes on this and best practise is that the only rifle that should be loaded is the one carried by the chap leading the party.

I for one would not part with what little money I have to be treated so shamefully, if what has been posted is true.

Sounds like an episode of Starsky and Hutch ! :D
Went stalking yesterday with a friend of mine. Turned up at the appointed spot to meet the stalker only to find that he had another chap with him. We set off to the first set of woods, a walk of some three hundred yards when my friend spotted seven fallow on our side of the treeline so we hit the deck. The stalkers mate scooted to the side of the hedge to our left and promptly let off a shot at two hundred yards hitting one of the bucks. The herd ran down the field and we gave chase along the hedgerow. He took a second shot through the hedge and missed. The herd ran again and chappie hit a second on the run. The herd ran to a second field and paused, a third shot at 375 yards resulted in a gut shot and the end of the beast with a knife.

Now we have to drag three deer to a collection point, gralloch and load them onto the truck, we now have two hours or less stalking time. They have four hundred pounds worth of deer plus our stalking money. Fecked off is an understatement.

Your views please.....

 I know who it was John Waine. PS you ask for all you get at the start of the day things should have been sorted and you and your mate should have walked away.

The only thing that I can usefully add is to ask whether the 'Guide' is a professional Stalker, either employed by the estate or self employed, or just a chancer who has access to a bit of stalking and fancies subsidising his sport by taking money of you? I'm afraid that alot of people who call themselves Stalkers do not have the background knowledge of the little things like eticet (however that is meant to be splelt!) and how to correctly treat a guest let alone an animal.

If you know for sure that one of the people involved was using an illegal rifle then I would urge you to ask the admin team to delete this thread and report the matter to the Police. Believe me they are starting to take things like this seriously. Do not delay in reporting the matter because there is a time constraint on this type of offence and it may well be that someone willing to break the law in one respect has other, often more serious, skeletons in the cupboard. Don't feel bad doing it, they were happy to rip you off.

I assume his 'mate' took you and your friend off for a 2 hour stalk afterwards 'one to one'?
If you agreed to pay for a 2 hour stalk, you may have difficulty with a refund despite the preceeding debacle?

I would imagine the owner might be looking for a new lease holder soon as well if he is not happy with your reports!:thumb:

Sounds a bit of a mess. Hope you end up with a good outcome.

You need to treat yourself to a really nice professionally guided day, with a nice buck or two..get the bad taste out of your mouth, and be left with some good memories...best way to get over this kind of stuff..

And you've been out more than once with this clown !!!! you need to find another place to go stalking and name and shame the person involved
As for the stalker taking a rifle out as well as the client i do this every time incase i need to take a quick follow up shot !

I have been out with the same stalker on many occasions. He always carries his rifle and has in the past "jumped the gun" so to speak and taken a shot before me. I have also been left in the high seat while he has had a wander around. The last time he did that he bagged a rather fine buck not 500 yards from where he left me.

Time to move on to and find pastures new I think.
you sound like a gent your guide does not i dont think you need to name and shame as its probably not your style .i recently had a problem with a well respected guide , i spoke to him about the situation after i had paid and he was a perfect gent and offered a free stalk !as i have said on previous posts one pays ones money and you takes your chances. good guides will stay in business bad ones wont i hope ! a good guide i stalk with always takes his rifle with us ,he shows me it is empty before we stalk and only brings it in case of a malfunction of mine etc
good luck with the new pastures

As above please, bearing in mind that if they do come back to us to challenge what has been said on the site we will ask the poster to stand behind what he has written.

name and shame..so we can avoid!!..just one thought did they shout "us marines" before they ran off shooting at everything that moved?

As I have never paid a stalker are you all sayin you pay in advance ?, on the rare occassion (germans) I have been payed for stalking, I ask how there day was and were they happy and then they pay me, on pheasant days I pay at the end of the day which I have never been dissapointed with. Some of you must have too much money if you pay for a bad day, and then you go back again.

I just had a phone call off the stalker and it gets worse. I spoke earlier to the lease holder on the land and he has obviously spoken the the chap. The stalker tried to say that the situation was our fault as we didn't get a shot on the deer, his friend had to shoot them. He also said that they are obliged to keep the numbers of deer down, to my mind that means culling not stalking. He called into question my experience in stalking and suggested that I find a sport that is less brutal. This was said after I questioned the ethics of gut shooting deer at 300 plus yards and shooting running deer by his friend. Unbelievable and even more aggravating. The scenario he has invented in his head bears absolutely no relation to the events that happened on the day.

I will be writing to the lease holder and the landowner tomorrow to inform them of the full facts. I shall also be penning a write up for this forum so you can make your own minds up.
