Thermion 2 XP50, XM50 or will there be a XM50 2 coming to the UK market or XG50

Hi All.

There seems to be alot on the market regarding thermal scopes. I have been looking into the thermion range and hope someone may be able to help.

I will be aiming to do alot of rabbit and fox shooting in the uk, rabbits to approx 120/130m and foxes to approx 250m/300m if push comes to shove.

I have seen the new thermion 2 XP50 and XQ range have hit the shelves in the uk. From what I have seen of the videos etc the XP (1st model) is a great scope at shorter ranges but does the XP50 2 aid in clarity at longer distances or will still be the same as the 1st model due to small magnification?
The XM model looks great but am wondering if there is a 2nd model coming to the UK to follow suit of the others with a upgrade anytime soon or I see the US XG50 is basically the same as the XM50 just more resolution, will the the XG be coming over to take place of the XM in the UK.

Sorry for the long thread but hope someone has the time to read and get back to me.

Will be looking to buy just before the UK harvest time.

Thanks

Daniel

Hi Daniel, There will be very little difference in the image between the Thermion 2 and the old version, it’s a clever marketing ploy by Pulsar to get as much out of the technology before eventually using a 640 12micron core, which they will probably bring out next year.
This video is very helpful in understanding which would be best for your needs.
You can get an XM50 for £2900 which is a great price.

Hi 20PPC

Thanks for the Reply, I've seen the video which shows a great comparison I must say. Your totally correct regarding the getting as much as they can out the old tech. I see the XG50 was out in the USA last year and was hoping the XM50 2 may come out as a Europe version of that this year utilising the 640 res and 12 micron and F1.0 glass.

Tough one weither to wait and see what the summer brings this year or get the XM. Hmmmmm

Thanks

I looked into it last year and for what I want (foxes out to 300max) the XQ50 was the best bet, a mate has the XP50, which is great but when you dial up the mag to get a good sight picture on a fox at range, picture quality was the same as the XQ. The XM was fine but I preferred the picture quality of the XQ. My understanding is that we will not see the XG50 here in the UK in anything other than the front add on (already here in the FXG50) as it cant be exported from the US.
With thermal its definitely tempting to wait as there may be something around the corner, or an upgrade is due. I treat them the same as I have done computers, get the one that suits your need now then don't touch it and forget the upgrades. They hold their value well in the second hand market so reselling after a year or so is a viable option.
Without doubt, they are a game changer so Im sure you won't be disappointed whichever your final choice!

Hi Andy

Thanks for your reply, good shout with the XQ model, will have a look at that too as the base mag is 3.5 I think so offers a better mag, and would you say the XQ would still be ok for rabbit shooting to say 120m Ish, you know are they just a blob or a pretty good outline.

Cheers.

I have mine set with the main image at base mag, then the inset picture window at 7x mag. Its easy to id the rabbit as a rabbit shape at base mag at that range, and with the inset window, you've got a clear target picture to aim for. I don't shoot many rabbits tbh, not enough around really, but my mate with the XP has been doing some clearance work with his 223 (expensive!) and he's had no trouble with that at those ranges and beyond, so I think either would be fine.

No Thermion XG50 in the UK any time soon.
If you want more mag and more detail the look at the T-Ceptor Pro 55-3 and 55-6 from the Night Vision Store and the Raptor X from Blackwood Outdoors
I have a Raptor X on trial at the moment and it has the best thermal image I've seen - better than my Krypton FXG50
Video review here
I have not looked through any of the T-Ceptor Pro models so can't comment on them

Cheers

The Thermion 2 series does have better digital magnification, same as the Helion Pro model does.

Also the Thermion XM50 units have just had a price drop to £3099.99 RRP.

I have a thermion 2 cp50 in at the moment. Very nice but I'm no better equipped to shoot foxes with it than i was with the xm50 a year ago. New products equals new marketing desire. Id spend the extra cash on an extra dedicated rifle personally but im all for value for money in practical terms,

I have been thinking the same to be honest, totally stuck on my decision. with the new thermion 2s out I am still no further forward.

I tried through mx50 and liked it but haven't had my hands on the others yet.

The Thermions are very nice units , Pulsar lead the pack when it comes to software and features without doubt ..

Obviously things are moving towards 12 micron now , Pulsar will probably jump early next year at a total guess, I would say ..

I’d put any of the Trail 2 and Thermion 2 models on my own rifles..
