Face masks after monday - Your thoughts?

The only time I've worn a mask is when I went to the health center to have my jabs. If anybody has a problem with me not wearing a mask, well just keep the feck away from me. I'll have no problem with that if they do. For those that want to wear a mask, crack on.

You're talking complete and wilful nonsense. 10% ytd is entirely within the bounds of normal movement for blue chip stocks. 36 of the other 99 blue chips have increased by more than that in the last 6mths alone.

You're determined to believe that there's some sort of big pharma conspiracy and therefore refuse to accept the facts and insist on believing complete nonsense. It takes less than a minute to prove your claims are piffle. Ffs.

Firstly I have no axe to grind re big pharma I hold some of their stocks and doubtless the baskets used for the old mans pension contain a shedload seen as he worked for one of them doesn’t matter one jot to me if they make money in fact it’s in my interests. They are just doing what they do and if you think 10% ytd is sustainable year on year for blue chips then fair enough I don’t you’re entitled to your opinion but it doesn’t change the fact that if invermectic was a wonder drug then well that wouldn’t work out to well financially for the big players.

Yet again just because some dares disagree with the status quo their a conspiracy nut.

On a slightly lighter note I see The Saj has just been diagnosed with the rona after both jabs. Absolute con job take it and still get it. So share price might be battered Monday.

We here will continue to wear our face coverings whilst in close contact with others in crowded areas, fortunately we don’t frequent many such places living here but if the need arises we will, to us it’s just a common sense approach !

I hear our latest Health Minister Sajid Javid has tested positive and he’s had both vaccines, now self isolating, l wonder if he’s been wearing his face covering or not ?

It seems to becoming harder and harder to retain our sense of humour……thank goodness for “Woody” !

Funny thing.

It was Mrs S62's birthday this week.

I managed to book a table in a local Chinese - which had only just opened back up, after nearly eighteen months of "take-away only".

Mask on to enter. All staff wearing masks. Customers "mask off" at the table, to be replaced if you needed to pop to the loo. Tables at 50% occupancy to create some "social distance".

I reckon that this was the first meal out in nearly two years. It was a real joy to be out again. Too much wine (oxymoron) and a large brandy to finish.

Instead of the usual handshake as we left, a quick right hand over your own heart to show your thanks and a healthy tip for those working in such conditions.

Daughter, outside to shovel us into her truck, the short drive home and then pour us back into our own driveway.

Goodness, how (in the past) I have taken a meal out for granted.

Common sense is taking protective precautions. Taking ineffective precautions is a matter of personal preference. Insisting on ineffective precautions is stupidity.

It makes no difference if he has or not.

All this was well known before covid came along and the reasoned medical and scientific consensus (as opposed to the brainless hysteria currently favoured) was that wearing masks in daily life was completely pointless.
It's a new type of coronavirus, not a complete reversal of the Enlightenment. We might as well burn witches again to be on the safe side.
Main reason most masks are useless is because the are not of merchantable quality for the job they’re trying to do.
And, they are made in China!
Ken.

Bugger only knows if I will be able to come over to UK in early August as they (Boris cronies) change their minds daily.
From the Daily Mail today 18.07.2021.
From tomorrow, motorists passing through France in transit to the UK from Belgium, Germany or elsewhere will be regarded as arriving from France – and subject to quarantine when they reach Britain.
That's me done for. Why should I pay over 2K for a 10 day hotel when my house is only 2 miles from the docks?

I don't think anyone maintained that the jabs would prevent you catching the virus - what was said is that the jabs would reduce the deadlier effects of the virus and the number of deaths which currently it seems to be doing

There seems to be a large variety of available masks and no doubt some are better than others. - surely some of them must be effective and it stands to reason that whatever mask you wear, it has to reduce the spread of the moisture from one's breath which is apparently what carries the virus.

My observation of the overwhelming majority of people wearing 'face-coverings' is that they have one mask, and one mask only. It is then stuffed in and out of pockets, handbags, taken from the dashboard, driving mirror, glove-box, car-seat...etc etc. I do not regard this as particularly hygienic nor healthy. It would be interesting to view some of the microbes 'rustling about' in some of those ! They are largely of the single use variety or in many cases, a 'fashion item' and the 'experts' are split anyway as to their effectiveness. Approved surgical/medical masks are the only type one could argue to be of any use whatsoever.
Let us breath fresh air, let us live life, we have only one...let us live it ! I hazard that future generations will look back with incredulity at what this Government has done to society and the economy......'What' ? 'They wore masks and 'sky-clapped', what a nonsense !
Protect, and spare no resource for the vulnerable but we must simply 'crack-on' and get back to living !

Camodog has nailed it. Furthermore, have you noticed how the initial importance of hand hygiene; when did you last see someone wearing latex gloves in a Supermarket or on Public Transport, is now a very second to face coverings.

Camodog...i totally agree mate...life is for living...we must get back to normal soon or i believe we will be lost for a very long time...the toll on the nations physical and mental health is going to only get worse if things go on as they are...70/80% of the nation is jabbed now after a tremendous effort by the NHS so lets as camodog says 'crack on'....H.

And hand sanitizers seem everywhere to have disappeared if the UK is anything like here in Germany.
BTW are all the international truck drivers delivering the UKs food needs of spanish sausage/french cheese/german beer all being forced into this 10 days worth of hotel isolation?

I think that a government should regulate and restrict our lives as little as possible.

The wearing of face masks - to protect oneself and more importantly others is, from tomorrow something we have to decide on personally. Except where the owners of premises you wish to frequent stipulate otherwise. There, the choice becomes one of going into those premises or not if you won't comply. It's their gaff after all.

However, the wearing of face masks is a teensy bit less onerous than being stretched on a rack. Not that you'd think so according to some.

I’ll continue to wear one in public places with high densities of people….although the rules are sometimes a bit odd - wear a mask walking through a restaurant full of people but you are okay to remove it as soon as your bum touched the seat at your table….seems odd!

regards,
Gixer

True but one of my daughters works in a restaurant kitchen she is compelled to wear a mask for eight hours a day..

My view. If you need to be wearing a face mask etc. the risk of disease etc is still way too high.

I think face masks are being used as a political tool to make up for long term fundamental failings in public health, as well as transport and building design.

Best protection against infective respiratory disease is fresh air and lots of it. All our transport, buildings - especially large shops, hotels, hospitals offices etc use recirculating air conditioning which is a very effective way of transmitting bugs.

Cramming people back into trains, buses, offices but saying it will be ok cos you are wearing a mask is just irresponsible.

It only has a 13% efficacy in stopping you catching Covid after the second vaccination. What it is good at is preventing death.

Moderator Edit: Age 65+

I have just noticed that my post has been moderator-edited.

As the implication is that I have supplied incorrect facts I have attached the BMJ article I was referencing, which perhaps I should have done with the first post.

March 2020 Chris witty said masks for nothing to stop the spread and washing your hands is better. Then we got told masks save lives and you must ware them. Now we're told all restrictions are ended but will be reviewed if necessary. Most people are now vaccinated so hopefully hospitalation cases will be now be down. If you're vulnerable or worried wear a mask otherwise I think we have to except covid is now globally endemic like the flu, its not going away but we have to live with it and move on
