Gamechanger vs Gameking

Hi guys,

I was looking at the gamekings in 140grain for the 6.5x55 but they seem out of stock in most places. Have or are they being replaced by the gamechanger now?

Is it worth dropping down to 130 grain on the gamechanger as it’s likely a longer bullet? Any experiences on it would be great. That or eldx in 143 grain seems popular

Cheers!

I've used the 130 TGK in 6.5 creed and the 90gn TGK in 243. Both worked very well, but I changed to the 143 ELDX and that's now my bullet of choice in 6.5

As I understand it, Sierra Bullets work like this

Gameking SBT (Spirepoint Boat Tail) - Softer

Gameking HPBT (Hollow Point Boat Tail) - Harder, perhaps designed for magnums

Gamechanger / TGK (Tipped Game King) - Harder and thicker jacket than the Gameking SBT, more like the HPBT in hardeness.

Best wishes,

130 Gamechangers are a great bullet in 6.5. I shot 5 bucks in May with them - all dead in their tracks and delighted with bullet performance. A moderate load of N160 and my 6.5x55 is a lethal combination.

I do like N160 for my 7x64 and was very tempted to try the Gamechangers but think non-lead will become more of a thing so going that way rather than developing new lead loads

(I've no issue with lead loads personally and have used Sierra Gamekings in several rifles to very good effect but for simplicity with compliance it looks like lead)

Hmmm. I am old and in an act of pure obstinate defiance I am not rushing towards lead free. It has done all that I could ever have asked of it be it fishing weights, shot or bullet for nearly fifty years so unless something really draconian happens it will do me my time.
Carpe deum.

Cheers gents. Couldn’t work out if the gamekings were discontinued now or not. Certainly not well stocked online.

Can’t decide whether to go down the lead free route or not to be honest. Essentially just shoot for myself but for the odd paid day it might be easier than running out and buying some factory stuff

Lead ain’t dead!!

It’s not an issue from a shooting for your own consumption point of view but it will be a pain in the rear if they start phasing out billets. Suppose it will really depends on what the States are doing as that will be the bulk of the manufacturers sales

I don't think either Pro Hunters or Game Kings are discontinued.......just sold out most places. I think that they discontinued some of the lesser selling bullet weights/calibres a while back to increase production of the best sellers.

I’ve just had a load worked up for my .308, using 125gr GameChangers. They group well (1/2”), but I used them on deer for the first time this week.
The damage done was extensive (roe buck, chest shot, 25yds away), writing off the shoulder on the side of impact, but with much less damage on the exit, funnily enough.
I’ll try them again, but if they keep making such a mess I’ll have to think again.

I'd avoid the shoulder, and go for the lungs. High velocity, plastic tipped bullets can produce some interesting "splashing" when they hit a scapula.

That’s the entry 😬
