After a ‘year off’ due to Covid-19, the annual British Sporting Rifle Club Chamois Shoot will take place on Sunday 29th August on Short Siberia from 08:30hrs to 16:30hrs and along with my fellow Range Officers and helpers we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible there.

The competition is shot at 200 yards and for those not already familiar with the event the target is a DJV Chamois (see below). The course of fire is 5 rounds prone, using only a small knapsack as a front rest, followed by 5 rounds sitting supported only by a single stick; the single stick must be long enough to be used in the standing position. Rifles must comply with BSRC Class B rules 1 and regulations, as well as NRA range regulations, if you want to be eligible to win the Stein that is awarded to the BSRC member with the highest score, however, ‘sub-calibre’ entries are permitted for ‘score only’. Use of an ‘HME’ rifle 2 is not permitted and muzzle brakes are prohibited. Copper only bullets are prohibited.

Alongside the Chamois we also hold a modified Sitting Fox shoot, the target is the DJV Fox (see below) and the course of fire is 5 rounds sitting in 90 seconds followed by a further 5 rounds standing in 90 seconds, in both positions competitors must use double sticks. This competition can be shot with any rifle that complies with BSRC Class B 1 or Open Class rules and regulations and with NRA range regulations. A Stein will be awarded to the BSRC member with the highest score on the day. Use of an ‘HME’ rifle 2 is not permitted and muzzle brakes are prohibited.

In addition to being open to all BSRC members, including probationers, the shoot is also open to the following:
  • NRA members provided that they can produce the following on the range prior to entry being accepted:
  • A current NRA membership card in their name; and,
  • A current safe shooter certification card in their name for scope sighted rifle.

  • Members of any club affiliated to the BSRC provided that they produce the following on the range prior to entry being accepted:
  • A current membership card in their name for an affiliated club; and,
  • A current safe shooter certification card in their name for scope sighted rifle.

  • Any shooter not falling into any of the above categories provided that they can produce the following on the range prior to entry being accepted:
  • A current personal Firearms Certificate in their name with an appropriate condition allowing the use of the rifle(s) they plan to use on ranges;
  • Proof of current valid individual shooting insurance in their name; and,
  • A current safe shooter certification card in their name for scope sighted rifle.
Shooters falling into the above three categories will shoot for ‘score only’ and will not be entitled to win any prizes.

Entry fee will be £5 payable on the day and will be on a first come first served basis, re-entries will be accepted for an additional fee of £2.50 per shoot (either Chamois or Fox) and provided that they do not take priority over first entry for any other competitor.

There will be no facility to zero rifles on the day; any shooter not hitting the target area with their first two shots will not be allowed to complete the series.

1 BSRC Class B rifles must be legal for shooting ‘large species’ deer in England, i.e. minimum .240” and 1700ftlb ME

2 ME exceeding 4500 joules

Lastly, it should be noted this is a friendly and relaxed shoot and there will be plenty of people on hand to assist and provide help and encouragement.

What a fantastic opportunity! Well done for offering to non members, will keep my fingers crossed to be able to attend next year. Wishing you a busy and exciting event.

Ps: As its not possible to add a registration-like form to this thread that would allow SD members to indicate their intention to attend the shoot would you please PM. This would be helpful as it would give the organisers of the event some idea of the number of non BSRC members to expect.

Many thanks

K

Right, I have a shooting pass, I'll be there! But I plan to have a go at the chamois detail with my drilling as well as the stutzen, which may require a bit of flexibility on the rules from the RO*. I'd better start reloading...

*On re-reading, no it doesn't. I'll just be having two goes then.

I would love to have attended but I have a family commitment that weekend. I only attended a few of the H4H shoots there but I must say the club and the members were the most hospitable and I always enjoyed the day, doing something different.

I hope you all have a great day. Maybe next year for me, and it will give me more time to sort out this competent shooter card too.

When I said I had "a shooting pass", I didn't mean a Safe Shooter Card or whatever it's called. I mean I do, but what I meant to say was I'm being let out of the house to go shooting.

I'd better so some reloading.

It’s a safe shooter card, most holders are not competent just not necessarily dangerous 😂

Still plenty of time to harvest a nice hazel wand but sticks with multiple extendable legs (2 or 3) will be allowed provided they are a;- fully CLOSED and b;- one leg is extended beyond all others so they would fall over if unsupported. This rules out the type that cradle the rifle front and rear. Read Viper, Blaser and Monkey Sticks etc.

As per post #3 please PM me if you're not a BSRC member and wish to shoot. A steer on AM or PM attendance would also be helpful.

You may simply turn up on the day but clearly it will help the RCO and "Helpers" if we better understand likely numbers so we approach squading in a coherent manner.

Thanks

K
Ps: Both Sako and Blaser rifles are welcome!

We had a chat about my drilling. Turns out he visited the Simson factory in 1970 and saw how the apprentice engravers learned their trade. It was great fun, thanks K, NDT Man and all the organisers and ROs. Not so many thanks to the officious NRA chap...

As pine Martin said better all round this time .... 👍
the sun came out the wind dropped woope !! As for nra chap it left me so traumatised that I'm sure it affected my score. 😉

Thanks to Richard, Steve and everyone at BSRC for running a great shoot today - perfect for giving a reality check to one's marksmanship skills...

Could not make it as NRA would not sell me Sellor and Beliot ammo, my certificate did not specify my cal only .30 Hope you all enjoyed your day,and achieved enviable scores. What was the story with the NRA chappie?

BC.

Indeed, the weather was quite nice by the time I turned up - sounds fortunate I missed the NRA man.

I should have brought an iPad so I could have looked at this thread and seen the aiming points. Well, that's my excuse, anyway.

Nice day out and a different type of target shooting!

Thanks to the organisers/RCOs.

As Arnie said (in several movies): I'll be back!
