unable to upload photos on classified

just trying to sell something on the classified section but it won't let me upload any photos, it says file is too large, it is only 1.2 MB

Try resizing it to less than 1MB before you upload it. It is set to limit attachments to 1MB, but when images are bigger than 1600x1600 it resizes and usually this gives a size less than 1MB. I'm guessing but I suspect it must be smaller than 1600x1600 but the size is 1.2MB?

What format is the image?

Open it in Preview and if it is a PNG file go to "Export" in the File menu and choose jpg format...if its a jpg choose a lower quality.

Alternatively open in preview and choose "Adjust Size..." under the tools menu and reduce the pixel dimensions.

Both give you an instant new size indication before you commit.
