Entry/exit with copper bulletsw

I have had very convincing results with both factory 308/110gr S&B blue and 110gr Barnes TTSX on Roe, no steps taken post chest shot, no bone engagement good wounds through and through. A good combination over 11 taken this year.
Out of interest have you checked the S&B velocity on the box and / or over the chrono? The ones I bought to try were only giving about 1500 ft-lb from a 26” barrel!

A lot of state forestry areas had banned lead but the ricochet issue is still unresolved.
Only CF round I’ve ever had a noticeable ricochet off was a lead 243. I’ve shot a lot of copper bullets and had no issues - treat it the same as any other bullet and ensure a solid backstop.

is there actually any real (not anecdotal) evidence this is a real issue as the only place I hear it talked about is on shooting forums, and mostly by folk who don’t use copper!

People are just looking for excuses not to use it, although the tide is turning.

problem is now the nay sayers are running out of excuses!

like ive been saying for donkeys years, roll them up amd shoot them, they do the job and do it well.

Pic above is on reds over 100 yard shot, 308 and 270 cal
they seem to work better the faster they go but they do kill as good as lead
I'm quite surprised that you managed to find the bullets, they don't appear to have hit a bone or they would be more damaged, I might be wrong though, I haven't shot a huge number of deer but of the 100 or so I have never recovered a bullet, they have all gone clean through and that includes a few sizeable Reds, mostly with 100gn Game kings in .243 or Speer 165gn soft points in .308

People say this about ricochet.
But I’ve shot exclusively Barnes in .300 Winmag for 7/8 years. Can’t say I’ve noticed any richochet.
I do wonder if stalkers are looking for copper to fail, and are talking about a problem that doesn’t actually occur.
One of the posts above talks about the copper bullet deflecting downwards - from that I take it lead doesn’t deflect at all then ?We know it does, so what’s the difference !

Interesting, yes I have and been getting north of 1750 ft-lb from a ~22” barrel per the set below.

I think I had a bad batch as they were labelled at 2575 FPS (or m/s) equivalent but yours sounds more like what was advertised on their website.

1750 is still anaemic for a .308 mind, my 110 Varmint load runs 3400 FPS/2800 ft lb

I like them being at about the same energy as a 243 for small deer where you don’t want a hard hit, no way would I launch them at a red or fallow.

I am getting 1/4 MOA out of them and the 110 and 130gr TTSX which are both up in the 2400 ft-lb range. My rifle likes .125” to lands, a surprisingly large jump to make them work.

Yeah they were 1/2 MOA in my rifle without a lot of trying, I may get some of the ones running at the ‘right’ velocity to try as I just get bored with doing load development these days!

Munty buck shot last week with 6.5 Creedmoor LRX at 80m. Ran on 40 metres despite being unaware. In-shot visible just above left shoulder as animal slightly quartering towards me. Will get the speed this weekend but loaded with 44 grains on N555.
They work just like lead don't forget!

Recently converted . Game dealer driven. Initial thoughts using .243 and .270 are entry & exit holes are tiny. Hardly any blood trail. Meat damage considerable less. Internal damage good as shown by the apex of yesterdays heart. BAD66D53-7B3D-43C1-AB3A-9994CCAA3F11.webp

For a man as dedicated to a clean carcass as you, that’s very disappointing.
Ah sure it‘ll be grand once you suspend it and crack open the ribs. :-|

Not surprisingly it didn't get hung up. The badgers got a free meal.
For anyone who thinks that I'm pushing back on this, they couldn't be more wrong. I've bought a new rifle and scope that's going to be a dedicated non-toxic rifle. £4,500 all in. I need to find something suitable. I haven't given up on the LRX as that's the first deer that I have shot with them and it was tiny anyway so no meat value. I have 50 loaded up 5-LRX's after developing the load so I'm hoping that this was a one off. Will add photos as I go.

I’m only yanking your chain a bit, to “ gralloch” my first and last CWD I picked it up and shook it.
Good rifle and caliber choice, best of luck with it.

Munties seem to be real easy to overpressure the chest cavity and cause a sea of green...
That's true but that bullet should have barely touched the chest cavity if it had continued the path I would have expected it to have taken. I was only a little lower than a high neck shot. I certainly didn't expect to find that damage and fail to see how it ran 40 metres with that amount of damage either.

I had a similar experience with a 130gr Sako lead projectile on one, turned on a rib and departed from the same side it hit down around the haunh making that horrible popping sound.

it also ran a bit and gave me 30 mins of searching wondering how I GS it when I hit it broad to the chest at 80 yards

Will upload image when able

Red staggie - 160 mtrs

Entry just behind left shoulder - took out mid heart and into opposing chest wall taking some lung into wound

Animal slightly quartering - no discernible exit wound so surmising bullet struck right shoulder and stopped

130g 7mm GS Custom @ 3300 fps

Stag located 30 mtrs from point of impact

Have not dissected carcass further as collected by GD now

Internal chest wall shows expansion on impact ans continued expansion through chest cavity (organs)
