Gordon Slaughter from Fyne Game saw this coming years ago, he told me about the numbers of deer coming in, the badly shot, the fawns, etc. He said “tell you what, I’ll not be in business in 5 years from now because there will be no deer left!”. Guess what, business folded and got sold this year

SWS I believe the figures have been static at around 8K that includes Roe and Red this has been like that for the last 10 years so sustainable.
I would have no doubt you could put in a FOI to the Deer hub and they would give you the figures, nothing to hide..

That story can’t be right!! There’s no money in leaving deer on the hill that’s been shot!!! Contractors are mostly doing it for money so why would they leave them after being shot??The wrm would soon hear about it and you would be sacked on the spot!
Forestry blocks at night tired, time constraints in getting shot beasts back to larder, grallochs to bury and gps etc, of course mistakes are made, nature of the job and to be expected. But struggle with numbers mentioned

Absolute rubbish every contractor has to have a proven dog, and why would you leave carcasses, no money in that.

Tell that to the people I know who do the job. Several quit because they were so disgusted by their job. Tells a story..

I do know a few contractors well. I don’t know Griff, but will back up what he is saying. Loosing ten runners a night is nonsense and made up,

Yes! Many locals have been reporting wildlife crime to the authorities in fact! They’ve been finding carcasses and heads of non-in-season beasts,, it’s being reported.
So the people you know have quit because they are disgusted with the job, are they the ones who are wounding and not finding, if so then I say good riddance please let me have their names so that i can pass it on the WRM or even higher.
The FC would of been all over that in a flash, this is a wind up isn't it?

A lot of people on here can't tell the difference between deerstalking and deer control. You will never control deer numbers stalking weekends and living hours away from the ground. Contractors are used because they are experienced, fast and prepared to put in the time. And as for leaving dead deer on the hill, what a load of crap. Nobody I know that contracts would leave a perfectly good carcase to rot when they can sell it.
