Deploying the pallet of goodies on the shoot.

Well, the farmer told me that the two new Guns, (along with the rest of the syndicate) had paid their subs. and so I could go and invest in the infrastructure of the shoot.

Another ten Manola sets, plus stands for all eighteen on the the shoot. I had been using tyres to lift the Manola but the stands do a better job of it. I have now used the tyres to add some weight to the lids and try and keep the deer out. Sheep on the other hand - nothing can keep them out. I have two feeders in a field that currently has sheep and lambs.

The feeders (and tyres) have been scattered to the four corners of the field. Really quite impressive. Just one of those things you have to live with.

I have also bought some drinkers, but not entirely sure that they are robust enough - we shall see.

The plan is to increase the feed, not just for the birds we do put down, but for the wild English Partridge and wild birds in general. I saw our covey of twelve again today. Always brings a smile to my face.

What does not bring a smile to my face in another fly tip. I think the plastic cans with have oil therein, and this must encourage illegal disposal to those morons who are predisposed to behave like this. I am out and about at all hours on the farm and yet somehow they manage to commit these offences without my being there. Damned annoying.

Anyhoo.

A hot bath and a cold beer awaits...

Fence around the feeders, 4 posts and a bit of sheep wire, a couple of slots for the birds...common practice.
Ducks will empty a feeder very quickly, they learnt to whack the auto feeder spinner and guts it down

I was back at the shoot this morning.

I waded into the stream and hoofed the plastic containers up onto the side of the watercourse.

If fly-tipping was not bad enough, these containers are full of old oil. In a fing stream.

Utter, utter cnuts.

Have made a request through the Farmer, for the council to remove them.

Just a hypothetical question.

You are driving past a country gate and you come across the man who is doing this.

What do you do?

The second image in what runs through my mind...

Will you be deer proofing the feeders?

Have you considered some trail cameras to try and catch the fly tippers?

I think that is the way to go.

Without jumping to inappropriate conclusions - the type of fly-tipping - tyres and old oil, would indicate a local garage.

I will raise the issue with the Farmer, although technically, the tipping on this (road) side of fence is not his land. It is always his Father who arranges for he council to come and sort it.

It should be relatively easy for the council to check that any local garage had an oil and tyre disposal arrangement, I think they do sometimes do some detective work on the tipped items. Environmental health people?

In these days of ISO 9001 do the old barrels have batch numbers on their labels that could be traced back to suppliers and thence customers?

My garageman brother ex law has a couple of 200 litre waste barrels and the tyres collected regularly...he also uses a lot in a very fancy high-tech waste oil burner to heat the garage. I would think it more likely a gifted amateur...someone with a number of self-maintained vehicles...what sort of tyres?
