Best Bum Bag ????

I use an Eberlestock dragonfly pack, holds the rifle all my stuff and I can fit roe or smaller into it aswell.

I went to an Army surplus, bought the belt and added from the choices of diferent sized packs available to make one up that suited me personally.

Great bit of kit, got all you need to hand..

Used a short lightweight waistcoat for years, similar to the fishing ones that are out there, there's a huge choice with fishing gear that suits and generally it's cheaper than shooting stuff. Sits over your jacket in winter, shirt in summer...brilliant !

One thing to remember with all decent sized bum bags is that when they get a fair bit of gear in them, they get heavy.

Then, after a bit of a walk, they start to slide down over your hips in a most irritating fashion. So you have to keep re-adjusting. And they keep doing it until you go mad.

So you really need a bag with optional shoulder harness to prevent this happening.

Or a fat arse. ;)

Brilliant post !

I tried and found I didn't like wearing a waist pack, so after a bit of deliberation I ended up with the super-slim Eberlestock Mini-Me backpack - it has room for a hydration bladder, all the usual paraphernalia I keep on my belt or pockets and a spare mid-layer or waterproof outer layer depending on conditions.

It also has the huge advantage of being able to accommodate a rifle scabbard, which sits comfortably against you back and is brilliant for any stalking where you face a long walk before the chance of a shot, e.g. out on the hill. Loads of different camo options available, plus a very nice Loden green designed for the European market - however I've found that Eberlestock's muddy brown Dry Earth colour is damn near invisible in almost any conditions.

I know what you mean, damn annoying. I found that it's best to adjust to be suitably tight whilst wearing your normal stalking clothing then tape up the adjustable strap so as to not be able to work loose.

Then you must resist the temptation to over fill it with stuff cos the heavier they are the more they want to head south.
