Lord Dubs...the gypsies friend...

Here's a bit of info about Irish travellers and their unique status, not a compelling read but interesting none the less.

The President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins has recently attended funerals of traveller people in a private capacity as a friend and admirer of them.
In a private capacity? Yet not so private that he didn't get it splashed all over the media in advance?
But then again he is a man of the people.
That's peculiar, I could have sworn he was a career politician.

Just thinking back to my youth, it's surprising how much has changed. The travelling community then followed the work eg. Spud picking, fruit harvesting, beet singling and knife grinding. Never heard of anything going missing except for the odd rabbit. There were always seven or eight Bow top or Reading Vardas every early Autumn came to the same place to pick spuds. Horse drawn vehicles with folk of the same hue as Indians, they came they worked they went, and you wouldn't know they had been there. Now you see every shade amongst the travellers, even blondes. Then their hair was black and the ladies coiled it up on the side of their heads, all very reminiscent of Munnings painting but without the fine dress.
Spot on, our village in the 70's the farmer use to set up several toilets and water tanks on field margins in preparation for his migratory work force to return - always the same people and their children who came to our school while the work was there, these people were valued, hard working and reliable.
Then came machines, contractors and affordable finance for said machines and they were not needed anymore...
These were not Irish tinkers, they were travelling english workers, over wintering in Kent they travelled as far as Oxfordshire. They were also buyers and sellers of many things and had good skill sets that kept them busy in and around the village during harvest.
Several families actually settled in the village on land aquired and still live their to this day.
If youve never met a decent, likeable traveller or befriended one in your life - its a shame,

Tinkers (irish travellers) are a curse for sure, but I feel this law will persecute English travellers that tbh should be protected in some way shape or form if not for their efforts in feeding our nation during tough times then for their historical roles in agriculture.

Michael D. is a champagne socialist if ever there was one. When originally elected as President part of his campaign undertakings was that his would be a single term presidency. Once he had his feet under the table and enjoyed the luxury and the deference afforded him as the President, a total volte face, and not a trace of shame. If he had lived up to his word I would have some time for him, as it is his cringeworthy left wing pronouncements prove that as an electorate we care little about the presidency. He is man of the left wing of politics not the people.
It was the people of Ireland wanted him for the second term, he has used his time in office to address issues such as justice, social equality, social inclusion. anti sectarianism, anti racism and reconcilliation He was the first Irish President to make a state visit to the UK.

A former lecturer in Political Science and Sociology, a former Government Minister responsible for setting up the Irish language TV station TG4, a former President of League of Ireland football club Galway United, a true man of the people.

I am no supporter of anyone who flagrantly breaks the law, trespasses or threatens violence against home owners, tenants and landowners but some of the comments on here - come on, we can do better than that.

I know the criminality associated, I have investigated losses relating to nearby ‘encampments’. Some acquaintances have been driven nuts, some have a very clear transactional relationship once they knew there would be severe consequences for some local ringleaders if they stepped out of line. Ive worked with some from that background who joined my profession, trying to better themselves and be part of society. They are human beings.

I dont think we can (as a society) have it both ways. We cant keep ‘moving them on’ and complain when they rock up on someones property. Provide the facilities, or at least dont make planning so ridiculous, keep them there and give kids chance to go to school, where they might get an education and contribute.

Nothing will change while they get moved from site to site.
And on the flip side - keep moving on, robbing, leaving a mess and ruining the local area and no one will want you there.

Plenary of people travel every holiday season in caravans to locations, pay for a pitch and manage the whole vacation without stealing, crapping outside or fighting….there is no excuse for many of thier behaviours, hiding it behind a vale of “it’s a way of life” is bullsh*t.

Hmmmm. So in conclusion it would be fair to say that no SD members will be getting their driveways done - “a proper job sir, last for years so it will and dats a fact”.
🦊🦊
Including the white spar crushed Polo mints.🤣
And that was joked about by a couple of my real Romany friends, been pals with four generations of the same family.

They can do whatever you are happy with in their homeland...Ireland. Your president can go to as many of their funerals as he wants...the more the better....in Ireland. I'm sure they are a marvellous addition to the economy, traditions and culture of their home....Ireland.

We just don't want them lying, stealing and fouling here thanks very much. Where they go, crime follows. They are so good....you keep them.
Unfortunately and regrettably I can understand your feelings, completely.😞

I knew the snowflake would defend this scum. Hares along with foxes , badgers and deer. Are you really that blind to think it doesn't happen.
Snowflake, Jesus lol grow up yah dick.
I’ve spent my life running dogs and have never had one rip a hare to pieces.
Just typical I’m alright jack cause my sports not banned yet bull****.

Yes.

You mean prevent them travelling and settle them? I don't think that's been a success anywhere it's been tried.
A culture can't entirely escape censure when it embodies or condones values that everybody else finds criminal and rejects the laws and norms everyone else lives by....whether that is travellers, ISIS or the Southern slave states in the 19th Century, or Apartheid last century.
Nothing will change while they get moved from site to site.
But that is the main point by which they distinguish themselves. There is nothing to prevent them from living a settled life.

Lord Dubs is a good guy. Came here as a child refugee from Czechoslovakia in 1939, and has been an advocate for similarly vulnerable people at ever chance. Most recently he was responsible for a programme to help unaccompanied children in the Calais camps, which the government shamefully didn't see through.
Why on earth couldn't the French Government assist?

As far as I am concerned, 80 percent of our traveller problems are not from the indigenous "British citizen" gypsy, but from the (and this is what they are known as in Eire) Irish Knackers.
These appear to be the almost sub humans that will invade a park and leave it like a council tip.
They are not welcome in their own country but due to a stupid law agreed in the last century we have to allow Irish citizens to come here and reside. This is not a racist blurb as I have many Irish and Romany friends, but they detest the "Knacker" more than a lot of us do.
Lord Dubbs would do well to go spend a year with them and leave his personal filth and excrement for kids playing in a park to roll in.
If they park without permission on private land, the law ought to burn their caravans and the £40k 4wd.vehicles they pull them with.
I would also apply this to home grown ones that break the law, as some of them will play the race card, if it's of benefit, and most will never pay tax.
You heartless so and so…I would at least let all the stolen dogs out of the vans prior to setting them alight.

Why on earth couldn't the French Government assist?
Because owing to an unusual glitch in progressive European thought, it is always the Anglophone country which is at fault for...in this case...being too liberal, humanitarian and progressive, while no continental country may be criticised for its bigotry, elevated levels of racist violence, insulation or brutality.

But yours would be transbender progressive socially adjusted vegan dogs…. So obviously no harm done chap 🤣😘

Haven't we previously had that same attitude from you in relation to other field sports?

It doesn't really matter, does it? If you see a child alone in a dangerous situation, if you're able to help them, you do.
We are not running a Global Social Welfare system here at our taypayer's expense. If and when we are seen to help a few kids in Calais, the people trafficers will immediately start flooding the area with children because they are not slow in identifying an opportunity to make more money. Hard as it may seem, these kids are not our problem and we have enough issues of our own with regards to vulnerable kids in this country and the current state of our social services (Arthur & Star as typical examples) without accepting any more. Enough is enough! If anyone wants to donate their own money to a particular charity that deals with these Calais kids then so be it, but certainly not at the taxpayers expense.

And what attitude is that ? Defending a sport that was banned against comment from folk who turned against it in the hope they would be left alone ?

I think you are confusing a once legitimate sport, enjoyed by many, with the condemnation of the illegal activities of our travelling chums, trespassing, causing damage and threatening land owners/managers to do so. There is no comparison.
