Theoben Rapid 7

Hi all. I’m new here and I’ve done a formal intro in the relevant section.

This is my first thread.

I broke out my old Theoben rapid 7 today to do some pigeon control in the stables and just got to thinking what a great gun it is and has been over the years.

Just wondered if anyone else has had one or still uses one ?

I know they’ve been out of production a good few years now. Was just curious.

I had a couple over the years. Very good rifles. My last 1 was fac but due to lack of rabbits I sold it.
I was constantly taking rabbits out to 70+yards and being honest if they had a better shot count I would have probably kept it.

I do know what you mean mines the Mk1 and the regulator didn’t come into play till the mk2. Giving it that better shot count. And more consistent accuracy. But for an old gun I love it. However last night I thought I’d see what they were fetching …people want in some cases £1000!! For sub 12. I was amazed.

I have an FAC rapid 12 and it summit else …. I believe lad KevG is THE rapid guru and I keep thinking I need to go see if will give it a loving overhaul & I believe can retrofit a regulator for them

Great rifles! Agricultural compared to some of todays fancy things but a mainstay workhorse that was easy to strip and tweak. KevG is the Rapid man and is a proper gent, he spent hours tinkering with my Mk2 and it made him scratch his head a fair few times lol but he never lost patience.

Fast flows can be set to as consistent as a regulator and extension pre chamber can helps also.

The late John Darling had one so what more needs saying 🤩

I’ve heard people talk of Kev but no idea how to get hold of him mine could probably do with a good overhaul like yours. But I’d want someone who knows what there up too and as you say I’ve heard he is the man when it comes to them.

I know what you mean. They are abit agricultural but to be fair mine never leaves the farm lol but it never lets me down. I don’t know him but have never heard anything but good things about him and his work.

Don't get me wrong I like agricultural...simple, effective, easy maintaining etc. The only reason I sold my Mk2 .25 was to get an edgun r3m which was even more agricultural 🤣

I also have a rapid MK2 fast flowed @ 30ftlbs I wouldn't be without it, yes it's maybe a little agricultural as mentioned above, but it's reliable very accurate and gives approximately 50 shots before it needs refilling more than enough for a few hunting sorties.

If I'm honest it's probably my favourite rifle out of all that I own, I started out with an air rifle in 1980 I believe my first one was an Norica model but moved to the weihrauch hw80 as soon as I could gather up the pennies, what a rifle the hw80 was back then and still is today.

I've had a few different airrifles over the years my first introduced to Theoben was an eliminator that particular rifle nearly put me off for life as it quickly eliminated itself, it broke my heart and cost so much money at the time.

I moved back to the Hw80 until one day having an opportunity to purchase the mk 2 came about because of my earlier terrible experience with Theoben I was reluctant at first, but boy I'm so glad I bought it it's an amazing rifle indeed and all I'll ever need.

I’m glad you decided to give them another go. As you’ve said above I have to agree it’s by far my favourite rifle and that’s why I’ve never changed it. It just does what it says on the tin. Every time and without complications. Cracking piece of kit. I’ve never had any dealings with the eliminator only because I’ve never needed anything else. Air gun wise.

The only thing I will ask while we’ve got a few owners chatting is does anyone use a different moderator ? I’m still using the one it came with 30 years ago lol and I’m sure there’s quieter things on the market now days ? Would be curious to know if so what people are favouring.

J

I had a moderator made. It was very quiet.
A guy I know makes custom moderators for £40-60 depending on what you want.
Sounds like a useful man to know. Do you have a contact for him ? I just want something nice and quiet. But as I say that’s probably most things compared to the standard Theoben one lol

Had one fac 30 ft lb. 22 . To be honest it was very niche for my needs and a pita for regards bottles . Sold it on to a mate , on the basis if it was needed I could borrow it back and if he came to want rid I could have first refusal if he was to sell at tge knock down price I gave him it would make a fair profit from the get go
Long story short we are no longer mates he sold it on when prices rocketed
Anyway to neiche and now I have found accurate low energy 22 rf ammo I don't need it
As side matter I keep a Steve pope built hw80 I simply would sell , we are talking tens of thousands of vermin with it
Also on open sighted super meteor the last of the British Built bsa guns . Took tge silly scope of and stored it , never shot at anything living with it but it puts a massive smile on my face, my nephew will get it when he is old enough , my own are grown enough to have shotguns and fac rifles . It cost me nothing as it came from a Scot who needed rid for obvious reasons

Airguns when they get too complicated are an exercise in frustration, when they are less than reliable useless for my ends
Theorem where always playing up , if I fix something I prefer to be payed not paying out and spending hours screaming out who the #### thought that was a good design idea !
