Saw a pair last Saturday while walking the dogs in Irvine , there has also been a few traffic collisions in the Ayrshire area with otter fatalities, so they are on the spread, it’s surprising how big they are.

They're harmless, beautiful creatures really. I love spotting them if I'm lucky enough to while out fishing. I often saw them put on a display in a pool and have caught trout from a pool while they were swimming in it.
Fully protected here in Ireland since 1990, it's a sign that the water quality is very good if an otter lives in it.

Apparently they have different behaviour too, travelling in family groups rather than singly. Makes them even more voracious!The recent release was the European otter which is slightly larger than our native sub species I’m told![]()
normally people that cant cook, or are too lazy to cook or their mate told them. but never actually triedHa ha, not inedible perhaps - just tasteless. Otters have read that this fish has been vilified in the United States as not being very good to eat.
Some anglers jest that the best way to eat carp is to nail it to a wooden board, season it with salt and pepper, let the carp dry in the sun for a week, remove the carp and eat the board.
